Yeah, I recently optimised my room so the sensor can see it all, and the CV1 cable is free and easy, and since then I've been getting up a lot and walking round my cockpits. My room is pretty small, less than 3m by 1m (and that 3m is all to the right of me) after clutter, so I've been having trouble with the bigger cockpits, as I can't walk all the way to the window(s). The smaller ones usually have pretty poor viewing area...
Until I tried the DBX. I used to hate the cockpit, it felt too utilitarian and ugly. Felt like it was the fork-lift-truck of space. But it's the perfect fit for my room, it has AMAZING windows that let you look down, and it actually does have character when you can bond with it with the CV1 resolution and mobility, and feel its scale properly. I think it's now going to be my ship of choice, despite its drawbacks...
Try this: Get a DBX, head to an engineer base like the one at Wyrd, park about 1.5km above it and then walk to your window and look down. If ever you want to feel the scale of Elite, that will nail it into your brain better than anything I've tried so far.
