Fellow astronomers: what are these two extragalactic objects?

They are the Magellanic Clouds, which are the two irregular "moon galaxies" that are just close outside the Milky Way. Not sure if FD is planning to have them explorable if they ever do add a frame shift module you can buy that allows you to travel that many light years...but really, they are very close, similar to the distance of travelling to the other side of the galaxy.

You're probably too far north in the northern hemisphere, but if you get the chance to go further south and to dark skies look out for them - they're very much naked eye visible and unlike some nebulae you can see in E D they are pretty much as obvious and notable in real life.

Yeah they are very bright and HUGE.


This is a shot of the LMC that i took from the Tivoli observatory in the Kalahari Desert in Namibia. The skies there are world class, some of the best on the planet.


Gives you an idea of naked eye scale.
