Fellow Cmdrs, and Frontier Devs, I made this mod... What do you think?

Hi guys,
As you know the Kickstarter community badly wanted a mod scene to thrive... So this was my first shot at it (even if no SDK is available as of now).

You see, I have this cardboard fake Oculus using a Nexus 7 + 2 lens, and Opentrack with FreePie APK installed... And I was psyched for the game, it being a poster child for Oculus and VR in general... So I splurged on the game a few days ago. But turns out that for DK1 users and people hacking away with cardboard Rifts and whatnots, the resolution at 90 degrees FOV (required for full immersion effect) is not quite enough to make the game usable, due to the lack of legibility of the cockpit panels and gauges. So I made this mod to alleviate the problem, and I also changed the SweetFX 1.4 for RadeonPro codebase a bit to convert the game's SBS mode into full fledged Oculus mode (with warping, chroma aberration correction, etc).

Note: my mod has a cap on to prevent high resolution monitor users to abuse the zoom capabilities (and limit them to 50 FOV) whereas low res people (i.e. 1080p with SBS enabled) will be able to leverage the deeper zoom levels. I put this cap on because the last thing I want is people using my tool as a cheat mode, and this is really to make all legacy DK1 users (and cardboard rift users) be able to play that awesome game...

Frontier Developers, if you are lurking in this thread, please give me some feedback as of whether I can greenlight this mod and publish the source code / executables online. I will be waiting for your godspeed words on this before doing anything further... As I am aware that I am not using an approved SDK...

Here is a demo:

Thats very impressive, perhaps the DEV team will consider this idea in a future release since it sure does add more interaction with your environment.

That was a big concern of mine as well. So I put resolution limits in order to make sure that it can only be used to make the Oculus DK1/DK2 on par with regular hi res monitors... Not to make monitor users overpowered. Right now I can't reveal exactly how my safeguard is implemented... But let's be honest here, any hacker out there would be able to reverse what I did easily... So...

FYI the mod executables are now public. Links in the Youtube video description.

Imho it is too complicate to use atm, it's a heavy hack.
If you had a small/light tool you run in the background which enables the zoom mod without requirement to install a bunch of stuff that would be great.

Also most DK2 players probably play at high res, I play at 1440p. That's the only way to get acceptable visuals so you'd have to account that in your mod, high res does not indicate a monitor in use.

Those are good points you are making. I unfortunately don't have a computer rig powerful enough for this, and I don't exactly have the funds for a DK2 unit for testing this... I'll see what I can do with the DK1 though, to see whether it is possible to run it without the custom shader in SBS mode...

Hi!

I was wondering if you were still working on this. I really need both the barrel view and ability to zoom...
I've tried getting the current version to work, but the explanation on how to install everything is pretty limited. Let me know!
