Ships Fer De Lance Cockpit criticism

I am loving the Fer De Lance, truly am.

Its just that dang cockpit, and trying to line up a shot with the gunmount on the bottom.

A pic is worth 1000 words, so let me just set the stage- high intensity combat, target dead ahead... hostiles all around- is the target in range? do we have a shot (talk to me, goose!)?!

Why? whyyyyyy?! what kind of an elite state of the art combat ship is this?! If this was real life, I would have taken a cutting wheel to that darn bar a long time ago. And why is the HUD obscured by it anyway?

The offset pilot seat went from being a stylish design choice- and devolved into putting struts in the pilots line of sight where he needs it MOST.

If the seat wasn't offset, the beam would be right in the middle, which would surely be worse.

But yes, it doesn't seem to make much sense in its current position.

Edit: Actually, I'm completely wrong. Ignore me.

Edit again: Actually, it wouldn't make any difference if you were right in the middle, it's actually the lower bar which obscures the target's distance.

Edit again again: Actually, I used 'actually' a lot actually in those last edits, actually.

Just raise the camera point of view a bit... look how much useless view is on top half of screen. That would put the bar down obscuring only the nose of the ship-- and not the fixed gunsight pips of the PAC underneath the ship.

The beam isn't that obstructive. The top left panel in the Python is worse, and there are ships which have way less visibility and even more obstructive bars.

Love the ship hate the cockpit, bought and re-sold immediately after release.
The view from pilots seat does not match the overall description of the craft.

The more time you spend in a FdL, the more invisible the bar becomes.
I don't even notice it anymore.

Believe it or not, there is an upside to having your view bisected by a bar:
Have you ever had your canopy glass blown out in a firefight? I have, and when the glass goes your HUD goes with it. Since the bar is there you have 2 independent panes of glass, so if your primary one gets blown out you can still fly and look out the one that is to the right.

The gimbals are your problem. The c4 can't aim above your ship at all, this makes fixed the way to go. I run all fixed, with the FdL's good speed but poor maneuverability, it's better to keep your distance where fixed really shine. If you're not willing to learn to use fixed, stay in the vulture.

It's time to lose the training wheels.

I like FDL asymetric cockpit. It is fine.

Bottom huge hardpoing is really bad - i agree.
