Fer de Lance to Sagittarius A* journey

I took my FDL into a Sag A*. I will update this post with a new photo and movies.
Why i took a worse ship to this? Because void is dangerous ;) It is better to be prepared, i do not know what or who i meet ;)
There are rumors - there are some objects, other than celestial body after 1.2 update...

... and it is more fun when it is a bit harder.

Orca is long range explorer in comprasition with FDL ;) I have 14.3 jump range.

Wow, I have around that on my FdL I use in habited space and find it pushes my patience.

I did a 'joke' FdL build on a thread that got around 20LY, though you'll be travelling with pretty poor internals and no weapons.

+rep for taking the ship out for these photos.

You nutter! :)

I recently returned to civilisation in my Asp, after having earned about 68M credits for exploration data and reaching PIONEER exploration rank (obviously didn't farm neutron stars as I quickly got bored after trying that heheh).

For laughs I bought a Fer de Lance and managed to get about 19.48LY jump range out of it...

I then tried it out for exploration. After about 500LY out, I turned back, because I couldn't stop laughing. Max jump distance used up one third of the pathetic 8T fuel tank, haha!

My comment on IRC at the time was "The FdL really needs at least a 16T fuel tank as standard".

I now have a Python and I'm ranking up in the Empire to be able to get my hands on a Clipper ;)

But good on you. I have no idea how you've not managed to die of laughter ;)

It always amazes me looking at your shots of the ice asteroids how much detail FD put into this knowing that most people will ignore most of the asteriod fields.

Yeah, they're really nice looking. Hopefully, they will be prime location for secret bases or hideouts in future content, or something...

I have 5A scoop at now and i am making refuel after each jump in a FSD cooldown time ;) Your version is almost paper, i have all combat equipment on my, to take down Thargoid warship :D

fuel tank is enough for me, jump range is horror. I am ~11500 ly from Earth at now ;)

I took a leaf out of configuring an Asp for exploration. At the moment, there's no need for a battle configuration for explorers ;)

Fuel scooping wasn't an issue for my FdL, due to the tank being so goddamn tiny :)

It was the fact of having to scoop every second or third jump that was the bummer - this also meant checking your next 2 or 3 jumps to ensure at least one of the stars on the planned route was scoopable; even just going 500LY out and I almost got trapped in a group of non-scoopable stars ;) It was at that point I decided enough was enough.

The good news is that when 1.3 arrives, we'll be able to fit extra fuel tanks to our ships, probably making the FdL even more viable for exploration.

There are a three rules of exploring in FDL.
1. You scoop always when you can (on every jump if possible)
2. You scoop always to FULL tank.
3. If next jump will leave less than four squares in fuel tank - do NOT jump. Get map, check next jump, get econo-mode and search for scoopable star. On four squares in tank, in econo mode you can fly even 30 ly and make a few jumps.

Greed can kill :D I died once because of low fuel. 800 ly from Earth. Above rules saved me a few times.
You scooping in cooldown time, so you can scoop always, because always is cooldown - you do not wasting time, you use it ;)

I admire your perseverance, good sir :)

I don't know, it's not that weird -- a lot of bounty hunters hang out at RES, which are in asteroid fields or gas giant rings. A lot of early alpha combat testing took place in such places too.

Bounty hunters hang out in rocky or metallic RES. There are no RES in icy rings, which are what the gorgeous pictures Kyokushin posted are from.

I stand and salute, sir! And another salute to CMDR Sloma for getting there in a Clipper!

I am gearing my Orca for the same journey. Straight up the galactic arm we go! The only reason I may wait for 1.3 to drop, is they are rumored to have fuel tank extensions, which would be a huge help to both Orcas and to FDLs!
