Newcomer / Intro Few question about Elite:Dangerous

Hello everyone, I'm planning to buy this game soon, but need a bit more of explanation before i do that if anyone can help me..

first: about online single player + multi player system: does your progression on single player can be used on multi player and vice versa?

second: Atm im having trouble buying the game from the store(keep failing while i can use the card easily to buy game on steam), considering to buy the game from steam but i want to know if i can play the game later without steam client if i purchased it from the steam store. I hope this is possible since i dont want to get my game locked out if im travelling out of the country(game lock DRM by steam and been trying to stay away from steam for a while now)

third: Any1 knows if the purchase issue can be solved? the support hasnt replied yet and i cant wait to buy the game and play it :/

You can switch between single player and multiplayer any time you wish. Your progression is stored on the servers, the single player mode requires constant online connection as well.

When I bought the game, I used PayPal. Is that an option for you?

I hope you solve your problem and can get ED soon. I've played it nearly every day since release and I enjoy it thoroughly.

When you buy from Steam, I highly doubt you will be able to play without running the Steam client. Why should it be different to any other Steam game? (EDIT: I do not have the Steam version, so someone who bought from Steam might actually be able to clarify if this is true.)
When you buy in the Frontier store, you get a standalone launcher to keep the game up-to-date and are completely independant from the Steam client. Another plus if you buy from Frontier store: Frontier will get all your money, as there is no 30% share to Valve.

Cannot help you with your credit card, though. I had mine refused in the Frontier shop previously as well, even after paying with the very same card two months earlier without problem. My bank told me the store failed to connect to the MasterCard SecureCode system and asked me to contact the store for support, while the store informed me to contact my bank for support. Well...
Anyways, this story isn't going to solve your problem. I suggest you contact your bank and ask why the payment failed. Perhaps some prepaid credit card or paypal account could be used instead.

I had the same problem, what you have to do is call your bank and have them authorize the transaction, frontiers site is based in the UK and most cards need the banks authority to make an out of country purchase.

The purchase problem, I can't help with.
But there is no "Single Player" as such. Solo mode is still a MMO, but you will not meet any other players, and your actions will not have an impact on the galaxy at large - as I understand it. You are still in the same network, you still need an active internet connection to play. There is only one 'progression' to keep track of, and that is stored on the servers, you can swap from soolo to open and back again as much as you want without problem - so this may be a viable solution if you find yourself in a spot where you keep losing your ship, swap to the other mode, move so,mewhere else, then swap back.
As to whether solo mode is any better than open play is debatable. I had tons more trouble from NPC craft interdicting me and trying to kill me in solo play than I have had problems with NPC and players combined in open. This may be down to players working as bounty hunters keeping the NPC problems in areas down. Others seem to have had more problems the other way.

Many thanks for the explanation guys.

Its just weird tho if you have to authorize the purchase just for a purchase based on UK, while i can buy something from NA or even JP easily without any kind of authorization. Any reason of this kind behavior?

Anyway now i just need to wait for confirmation from the support team or someone to confirm IF people purchasing the game from steam but still able to play it without steam. They just told me to use paypal, but it will take a while to confirm it and i dont want to wait for it >,<

Cheers!

Minor niggle - this is incorrect. Even in solo, your actions do have an impact on the Galaxy at large. In fact, this upsets a number of players who prefer to stay in open.

Yes, sorry. your trades will affect commodity prices. This can also be the reverse problem too. If you have found a good trade route in Solo, and it gets picked up a lot in open, your profits can go right down. That's one of the reasons I outfitted for exploration and left into open mode. Don't know if you can take BB missions that would otherwise be available in open. Are there any other effects that go between modes? I presume that if trades do, things like faction influence does as well.

I'd say yes it is possible (speculation). You'll need a Frontier commander profile-login with or without steam and steam basically just starts the ED Launcher. So downloading the game later from the Frontier online store will probably be possible and thus playing without steam is also possible.

As far as Steam goes - Frontier are going to be giving away Steam keys to all current and new customers. If you buy the game from the Frontier store you should be then able to play it on Steam once you have a key. If you buy the game from Steam I doubt you will be able to launch it without the Steam client.

Steam keys are due to start being given out from 28th May.

Well, those who bought the game on steam can actually test it and give a definite answer to the question. Anyone? ^^

Yeah that will be a great help if anyone can confirm it, the support still hasnt responded my last question for almost a day, while im raring to get the game sooon >,<

Well finally got reply:

"Regarding your query about buying on steam and playing without it, due to the way our systems are integrated with Steams, this is currently possible. As it is a side effect and not an intended feature, I cannot guarantee that this will always be the case. I see no reason for it to change in the future, but it might."

Guess buying it from the frontier store is the only way, so i have to go through the hard way..
