Few questions

I'm an Alpha backer but I don't really have much time to play.
Went on tonight and have a couple of questions.

The planets are just a flickering mess really and Azeban station is mostly black, is this normal? I have a couple of AMD cards and quite a powerful system with all drivers up to date. I get 100 plus Fraps near the Station.

How does Supercruise work? I played a month or so ago and you could just jump drive to a system or centre of action, now with Supercruise I just drop out thousands of kilometers from where I want to go. How is this an improvement?

Nope, that is not normal. Can you take a screen shot.

SC you need to exit at under 1,000km from target at under 1,000km/s speed.

The planets flicker all the time, not just in SC, lots of blocky sections switching about. AMD fix is off.
Is SC compulsory now? Can you not jump straight to a system like you used to?

You hyperspace jump to the system, then from there you supercruise the rest of the journey. Its how interstellar travel is done now.

I dont like it very much, but its better than just directly hyperspacing to where you are going and removing all the journey.

Well it's no doubt been done to death here already ste but I can't see how it's better, seems very artificial to me, I would much prefer to just jump in then do in system stuff. Supercruise feels like pushing a shopping trolley with a dodgy wheel into town.

You cant just hyperspace everywhere, you need to travel. The original you had to travel.

The problem is I think because it is kind of boring at the minute, the journey in the original was more exciting and had more dangers.

Theres too much badysitting with supercruise, and the way it works at the minute it makes the journey boring. Its just a plain pain being interdicted, and if you dont thats even more dull.

But it throws up a point thats been niggling in the back of my mind, the alpha was designed as a testing process.

The hyperspacing directly into battle, having a 30 minute or an hour constant action packed team death match to rack up lots of kills and money, and then hyperspacing back to rest and refresh is not what any of the original elites were about.

I dont know if its just because this is for testing purposes or how its actually going to be, but if they do eventually make it more like the originals and remove these set up arenas, are alot of people going to be disappointing because all this time they have been enjoying playing the game a way it wasnt intended.

I'm hoping supercruise is placeholder for something more interesting.

Anyone who bought into alpha or premium beta thinking the arena type setup is how the game is going to be needs to learn to do a little research before putting their money down.

Do you have the cards in a crossfire setup? I don't think that's supported yet, and may be causing the graphical problems you're seeing.

I think it maybe will cause an uproar if that is the case, because the way alot of people are talking I get the impression they think this is the game and that is the aim of the game.

And then are frontier going to make this arena thing a feature because of its popularity.

Again reinforcing my point about researching what they're buying into. It's nobody's fault but their own if that is what they think.

I seriously hope arenas don't become a feature, as that would be an entirely different game from what ED is.

Rep plus virtually back-slapping. Crossfire was on, turned it off and not only is all the graphical loveliness present but the framerate is up 20%.

Top man Teefur!

Now to work out what *any* of the buttons on this bloody X55 do!
