FGS build and PvP

I absolutely love the FGS. I recognise that it is not the greatest ship in the galaxy and that it also, probably, won't even be that competitive.

I have got gimballed MC's because I either use the PA or drop target lock. Also I find them easier.

Other than these things can anyone suggest tactics or strategies for hull tank fighting?

Normally the approach is to move as much and as fast as possible, trying to maximise time on target while evading the opponent. Except this thing doesn't move very well. Against NPC's it's not a problem and they pop fairly readily. Against CMDR's, I pop.

Like I say it's my favourite ship and I'll take it out no matter what, so look forward to soaking up your firepower soon!

Falter and Replicant are the Gunship experts, but I fear they are gone.

I think best is using a high dps build with all plasmas, and either rails or seekers in the smalls.
FAoff only, trying to evade enemy fire and hit hard with your own plasma.

It all looks really easy when they do it! I might ship in a couple more PA's for luck, I tend to get heat issues if I'm not careful though

Efficient PAs. The c7 distri should handle that.
Imho the multicannons need too much time on target to be evasive. Seekers with drag combined with full PA loadout sounds better. In theory

Ended up with five focused PA's with various effects and two small seekers with drag and thermal cascade. The good ship 'Dakka Dakka Dakka' is ready to play!

Focused PA's make it much easier to hit and the drag missiles can be useful here too. I still accept the FGS is far from meta, that anyone who loses to me in this is, frankly, a bit crap, but I'm going to have lots of fun with it! Given the strength of the hull I'll last a while before I decide to run away!

Slight power issues so my G5 armoured power-plant had to be monstered. Less than ideal but the PA's need lots of power.

I have a full MC load out in storage all OC, two with corrosive, it melts NPC's in a HazRes, its hilarious!
PA's are better against Cmdrs but less fun. Poor puppy who gets on the wrong end of this!

I like the convergence of the gunship, but it simply doesn't look as good as the FDS. For the Dropship I like a 3 PA 2 rail setup. I've been interested in a full rail setup on a FGS however. Maybe 4-5 short range rails would do well for a hull tank?

I have seen people (more capable than me) use all frag cannon build and cause havoc. At the minute I've got five focused PA's and two small seeker missiles. The missiles help stop the other guy boosting because those pesky FDL's have sitting still problems, the I can land hits more easily with the PA's.

Against NPC's nothing beats the full MC treatment, always a win! For hull tanking I don't have guardian boosters but I've got the strength up to 3500 and resistance's pushing 50% across the board. I'm sure others could tweak it higher but its not bad.

I rebuilt your build with a proper PvP build.

Switched armor to heavy duty, added thermal spread to pp, added drag drives to thrusters, added mass manager to FSD, switch MR's to one 4D & one 2D, swapped out a HR for interdictor, changed PA to short ranged blaster + thermal conduit (why waste DPS to match shot velocity when multi's are gimballed?), changed multi's to incendiary rounds & one corrosive, changed small multi's to rails with LR + feedback cascade and changed resistance shield booster to OE for less MJ's but faster shield recharge.

You sir, are bloody brilliant! Advice very much appreciated and now I'm back in Colonia I'm off to the engineers! One killer FGS comin' right up!

Well, this has been a win! Most everything needed I have in stock in my stored modules or on other ships. About all I needed was to do the short range PA and add a couple of effects here and there.

Engineers in the bubble should be as close together as they are in Colonia

Anytime. If there's ever another ship you need help with, feel free to ask. I have a bit of an addiction to Coriolis.io and EDSY, and have a PvP build for almost every ship.

I tried to like the gunship (I like how it looks), but it ended up disappointing me. I actually prefer the Dropship, as it feels like a proper tank (gunship seems "weak" for what it is).

@Bigmaec has a very effective Dropship (he showed me how effective more than once) but it was the seven MC build on the FGS that I really enjoyed. I also seem to be about the only person in the known galaxy who a) enjoys combat and b) can't fly an FDL for the life of me and don't like it!

I do enjoy the Krait mk2 as well, which is my other ship of choice. I guess I accept I'll never be meta but its a game and its fun so it works for me.

Now to practice with @Sir Ganksalot build!
