Fighter Hanger Worth it?

I've never used a fighter hanger before. And am wondering that if it's worth using. I need help farming for mats and could use it to help fight multiple NPCs.

It has PvE value for combat (except AX, where it can distract thargon swarms sorta or kinda help nix scouts). It can help burn down heavier targets, but anything smaller than your typical heavy combat ship and you'll have it destroyed before the fighter can really help.

If you're sitting in a single instance (like REZ farming), it's not bad to have. If you have the spare slot and don't need armor or something else, go for it. It gives you something else to fiddle with if you don't mind the credit sink.

(NPC pilots eat a portion of all credit gains, even if they aren't currently in use on your ship)

NPC's are pretty good with rails and flying the fighter yourself is fun! I won't let her fly in a CZ, but in a REZ I let the NPC fly the mother-ship sometimes.

I've had good luck with CZ's and my fighter on the Vette. The key is to direct their fire, not just let them go wherever they like, and to not be afraid to recall them on occasion or simply swap targets to keep aggro on you. It can be quite fun - had two Annies and three more on me trying to keep them off my pitiful Novice pilot one time.

Hella good time. Nearly lost a 35mil rebuy for a novice NPC...but yeah, good time.

I never touched them for a long time, then had it suggested to me that I at least try it out, so I did.

I had some fun with it then shelved it and haven't gone back more because I don't often fly ships with hangars, but I'd definitely recommend giving them a go.

If I'm being honest: I only fly ships with hangars. I have no idea if they are worth it or not, but I just like the idea of it.

I like them in a haz res. A fight 1 vs 3 when you attack a wing turns into a 2 vs 3, and the fighter is very good at keeping one escort occupied, sometimes even destroying it. That's with an Elite pilot though.
In CZ I find the needed micromanagement too much of a hassle, plus a death of your fighter counts as a kill for the enemy in the battle.

Slf pilot is a nice thing to have. Basically a expendable distraction for multi ship pulls. Put them on the biggest while you kill the smallest. Keep them fighting while you buger out. Park up and mat collect and become an orbital artillery platform and use them to pull the juicy ships in.

They have weapons and do damage. The higher they rank the more consistently they hit. Use gimbals with low level and transition to fixed as they get higher.

I read somewhere once they get elite they will actually pilot better using advanced fa off maneuvers even if you have them pilot the mothership. I cannot confirm this though.

Keep in mind they do take a share of your profits and combat xp. Its really like playing a hunter in WoW, if you're use to that playstyle its the same thing, with spaceships.

Do yourself a huge favor and set two binds if you are going to use them. Attack target (Shift-z for me) and their order menu (shift-c). Itll make controlling them fast and painless.

Npc pilot in fighter are really useful once their standards raises a bit.
If you hire a Harmless one, you'll have to train them up, but in long run they work out cheaper.
Once they get to about expert level (which doesn't take that long) they become a really useful extra gun, with the advantage of not being affected by chaff (assuming you get fighter with fixed weapons).

Also if you have other cmdrs join your crew, they can fly fighter and you maintain control of turret weapons.

That is a good point and something for newbies to watch out for. I don't deploy until we've got a decent lead and then I just keep them always working the next target with me.
