Fighting in RES on dark side of planet = fun

Have to say, first I thought it was a graphical glitch, my first encounter with a ring belt that seemed to disappear from view on dark side of planet, but then it made sense given no light to illuminate the ring.

And when I dropped in on the hires marker, it was totally dark - DARK dark.

The only warning of a proximity alarm is all that saves you before you go smash once the fighting gets lower near the asteroid field.

Added a lot of change of pace to normal high res combat that's for sure.

And then ship lights start to serve a real purpose. The lighting is actually really well done too.

Yup. Ship lights for visible cue and prox alarm for audible were just about only things to count on when twisting all around in a dog fight in pitch black. Sometimes on some angles you can make out some of the faint outlines of the asteroids before you get near prox alarm or ship light illumination distance but a lot of times you don't.

It's really made res combat a lot more interesting for me.

If you have ever been in a RES during a transition to dark...its like, OMG why is the lighting in this game so buggy....then you realize you are in an asteroid field and that the light would flicker as the star set on the rings. Just pure awesome.

It definitely changes the dynamics, one moment you are hot on the tale of a large ship, next your trying to pull away from an asteroid lol.

Yeah it's a risky game, your basically end up looking for black patches on a black background, but fun none the less!

AI have good detection for object. Dynamic or Static.
I didn't see how AI collide with Asteroid. But they collide with other ship, with mine.

Fighting within an eclipsed asteroid field is equivalent to flying a prop plane through the mountains at night with a new moon. Only for the crazy few...

I found that the lights are not strong enough to give sufficient warning unless you're flying very slowly.

It's a Python, you're not exactly burning it around. They're actually bright enough to be of some use when in a turning fight, unlike most ships where all they do is let you see what you're hitting.

I've done a fair amount of combat in dark rings and often don't remember to use the lights anyway. The IMPACT warning is your friend, especially if you do FAOff in asteroid rings (even in daylight). The PROX warning is fine, but I trigger that all the time and have learned to ignore it. The IMPACT warning menas you better be changing course currently or boosting into a course change soon. Works like a charm and I haven't crashed into an asteroid since January. (until tonight, of course, when I will invariably faceplant an asteroid just for making this post).
