Ships Figured it out - Grade 1 Rank Access, but I can apply level 2 mods. Reputation?

Old player back after a long hiatus. Engineers have changed. I've read what I could find, but am still unclear on this point.

I'm at Evlira Martuuk.

On the left side of the display at the top it says "Elvira Martuuk GRADE 1 ACCESS" but I can apply shield gen modes grade 1, 2 and if I do some more 2, 3.

How does the "GRADE 1 ACCESS" it's displaying at the top left relate to the level of the mods I can apply?

In addition, it says "Every time you click and generate a blueprint, you will gain reputation with the current engineer (unless with a remote engineer)."

I understand that's talking about the remote workshop not giving rep, but if I've unlocked this engineer, and I'm applying level 1,2 or 3 mods (3 is max for her with shield gens) what is the reputation for.

Have you been engineering this session? Sometimes the text lags, relog to check (exit engineer and re-enter might work). If you can engineer a grade then you have that grade.
