Filtering by star type

Hi Explorers,

I have heard many of you talking about how you filter by star type on the galmap. I had a look last night and could not figure out how to do it...

Could somebody give me a brief description?

Thanks in advance.

This thread should help you

Go to the Filter and "Show by Color and select Star Class. Then everything Class M and to the top of the menu below the drop down should be check marked. ANYTHING below Class M needs to be unchecked as those are not scoopable stars.

Safe Travels, Commander.

+10rep if I could Ravenov...(so I gave you +1rep)...love to the Fuel Rats!

Perfect...thanks (and +1rep to you too Futuristichub)

 Feel bad for stealing rep that should rightfully go to Lazrien ... If he shows up in this thread be sure to rightfully send some his way...

There are two famous mnemonics you can learn to know the scoopable stars.

In essence, stars classification goes by size and heat.

The classification goes, from the hottest and bigger to the "colder" and smaller: O-B-A-F-G-K-M.

All of these stars are on the "Main Sequence" which seems to be the requirement for a star to be scoopable.

Astronomers -and many players here, including myself- go for a mnemonic: Oh Be A Fine Girl/Guy, Kiss Me

Some players of Elite have come up with another mnemonic but is one that doesn't relate to the right descending sorting of the stars, instead gives it to you all scrambled: FOG KBAM.

Whatever rows your boat, knowing scoopables by heart helps a lot when out in the black.

Fly safe cmdr! o7

And then you have me, who does not filter for the scoopable types whatsoever. "Is it yellow, white or blue? Then it's scoopable!" (with the rare exception of the yellow/orange t tauri /herbig and white dwarf/herbig which are a different white)

I also do not filter the stars, however i always check my path ahead in order to be able to plan when and where i can scoop some fuel.

I haven't yet found one of those vast regions of unscoopables. I have had trouble with the route planner only giving me brown dwarfs when crossing between the galaxy arms to get to the Core, but I've always been one manual jump away from a scoopable.

I wish there was a manual route planner, a method of adding jumps to the existing route, or moving jump points around a bit. That would also be pretty useful in the Core where the route planner is so slow, if I could just create a route by hand.

Right now I actually spend most of my time with all the scoopables hidden, except O and B class.

This would be a dream man! I loooove K stars.. love them!! And I wish I could go from K to K to K to K to O to K to K... lol...

Here's a thought ... does setting the filter make the route algorithm preferentially chose those the visible stars? Ever since I've set my filters to only show scoopables, I very rarely get type L/T or TTS and have only once gotten a D. Previous to setting, I seem to have gotten a larger number of brown/white dwarf hops.

It doesn't seem to.
