Final decision

Wow I guess I'm going really overkill - I've got a 770 nvidia card, run the game at 1920x1080x60mhz and I'm currently planning on buying the new 1080 card later this year - yes overkill for now, but it will last me ages and I might upgrade the monitor next year.

Same here, I am either going to get Nvidia's new GPU or AMD's, depending on FR and cost benefits.

Yeah it certainly would be the best long term card out at the moment but anyone currently with 970/980/980ti I feel you should at least wait for the 1080ti to be released as that will be full fat chip. Anyone with a 7 series or older card and doesn't want to spend the cash right now then the 970/980 may see them through for a number of years still.

In regards to the 1080 by way I would also say wait and see what 1070 does as that has suggested that it will be faster than a 980ti which means it will be superbly overkill for 1080p gaming even at 144MHz you should be fine to pretty much max the game out.

Regards,

Adam

I would suggest you not to buy the 750ti and wait for the new amd and nvidia gpus! The 750ti can't handle new games on high settings anymore and won't last long.

Can Frontier create a app that will test if you make the minimum requirements and what you need to make it a better experience so people can upgrade where needed. Kinda like the app they use to test if you can run the VR systems (Oculus/Vive).

As is always the way with PC components, buy the absolutely best you can afford.

I did this a few years ago - spent over £500 more than I originally intended. But if I hadn't, i'd need a new PC again by now, and would have to spend even more...

I've got a 970...best card I've every had. I moved up from a 460! The 970as about £270 when I bought it, but can be had for £220ish now. Definitely worth the money over a 750.

I also moved from an AMD 6 core to a Intel i5 4690k. The AMD was a good processor, but the I5 blew it out of the water.

Looking at the system requirement report, it looks like your issue is going to be the GPU...Get a 4gb Nvidia card. Something from the 900 series will work great. 2gb is just not enough.

The 1080 comes out tomorrow I think, but personally I'd wait until June 10th and order a 1070- $379 RRP and apparently faster than the current Titan.. Future proof at a reasonable price. Will be interesting to see what happens to the price of other GPUs in the next couple of weeks, I'd imagine there'll be a whole heap of Titans and 980s hitting ebay.

I was wondering when the 1080TI will be coming out, and maybe waiting to see how many 980TIs hit ebay - but I'm always concerned about buying something like that 2nd hand.

The 1080ti is either end of this or early next from all accounts.

Thanks for the 9xx advice guys, just ordered a GTX970 as an upgrade on my R9 270 which came pre-installed in my current desktop. Bit pricy but for Planet Coaster it's worth it [up]

Please keep us posted how this upgrade goes (either on forum or PM), One of my older PCs has a 260 card it running on PCI 2.0, I wasn't aware you could upgrade to a 9xx card due to the PCI slot in the motherboard.
