Final farewell to CMDR Marshall Gibson

Hello CMDRs,

it is with an extremely heavy heart I bring you these sad news. On Thursday evening Aug 23rd 3304 (2018) my younger brother CMDR Marshall Gibson passed away after a massive, sudden internal organ failure at young age of 25.

I want to share this here with the Elite: Dangerous exploration community because he enjoyed the exploration aspect of Elite Dangerous very much. He was a quiet explorer, enjoying the depths of uncharted space. He had been on a six month trip around the galaxy, starting from the bubble, reaching various nebulae, black holes, planets, Beagle Point, visiting Sagittarius A* and just a day before he passed away, docked at Colonia selling his exploration data and completed his dream of visiting all these points of interest on a single journey.

He was just about to start his way back to bubble, when suddenly he got in massive pains and a call to 112 (European 911) was made. Unfortunately no paramedic or doctor was able to save him, so a full circumnavigation of the galaxy was not to be.

On the very day of his passing he uploaded a large collection of screenshots from his journey. Only hours before we lost him, he had sent me a link to the gallery. I have spent a lot of time looking at the sceneries and views he so much enjoyed, finding some solace that he got to spend time with the game he loved during his last days. It is a comforting feeling that he managed to get a sort of closure to his journey by submitting exploration data before the end. I had the chance to verify, and he is still docked at Colonia, Jaques Station. May he rest in peace.

His last entry to the gallery was probably taken when he did a tour of the surrounding systems:
”Departing Colonia.”
Nobody had a clue he would depart for good.

I can only hope you find some inspiration from his travels, and remember to appreciate the things you enjoy. Me, I find that many of the images convey his own feelings of accomplishment and joy he must have felt.

Our parents and I are devastated. Publishing his gallery and these words here is part of my way to grieve.

I miss you so much brother. Where ever you are, Fly safe.

Edit note 1: It was brought to my attention that his EDSM profile was set to private and thus travel map is not accessible. Screenshot link added above.
Edit note 2: I'm overwhelmed by the reaction of the E:D community. I'm reading your comments and private messages with tears in my eyes but increased consolation in my heart. I appreciate every single comment, rep and DM. Thank you so much, fellow commanders. Thank you.
