Without further ado, it is time for earthtone99 to bid a fond farewell to the community at large, this has been my home for many years, not as many as those of you playing on Xbox or PC, but a long time nonetheless and more than most games can achieve.
As with everything in life, there’s been ups and downs, I picked up ED digitally in 2017 upon release on PlayStation, and then joined here in December 2018 to add my humorous touches where possible.
Sorry for the overly downbeat posts I’ve been submitting since Thursday, this is not the usual ‘happy tongue-in-cheeky chap’ you may normally expect, and I’ve tried to pull my head out of the Doom & Gloom.
It was a very serious turning point in my real life that brought me closer to this game, and joining the forum for an escape from the real world.
My mum was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease just before Christmas in 2017, and then in late 2018 she was on end-of-life, passing on to the stars in early 2019.
I needed an escape, and this was it, I generally played flying solo (but in ‘Open’ mode) as a bit of a Han Solo gun-for-hire trader/explorer/combat pilot.
I joined a large PlayStation community on a superb Discord, of which I still participate.
And then set off on a large exploration run to Sagittarius A* at the end of 2019 in my trusty 44ly multirole Python (you will see at the end of my video below), arriving in about March 2020. I then toured the local systems, refreshed and set off for Colonia on a run that had me originally planned to head back to the bubble much later in 2020 to then work on Trade & Combat ELITE ranks (I achieved ELITE Exploration on this non & pre-FC run).
On my way to Colonia I was contacted and offered to help assist a local squadron with their BGS, they had a similar outlook to me, so I set off to head there and help them out.
Now, finishing up in March 2022 on PlayStation, I’m still a member of that very squadron of super friendly CMDRs all with the same ideals, I had wished to continue actively in BGS with them, & it’s been an absolute pleasure to fly alongside some great friends, friendships I’ve made that will last beyond this game, or my continuation of PC Odyssey, if and when I am ready to do so.
But the announcement on Thursday was the dreaded ‘worst case scenario’ for the console game, my primary go to.
For me, it is impossible to continue playing the game now, ED: Horizons running at 1080p, with poor graphics, & crashing frequently on PS5 with CE errors, whilst surrounded by so many new next gen games to move onto and play.
The decision has made things much clearer for me, playing the BGS in Horizons against the wealth of Odyssey levers is not something I am happy to continue, despite holding out for the past 10 months with the slightest hope.
So here we are, a fond farewell to absolutely all of you, I wish nothing but the best.
