Hey everyone, so I finally decided to go for it, after following the forums and waiting for a standard beta phase. Luckily for me, I'll be getting expansion pass from my gf as a bday present (my heart goes out to the fellas, that have wife troubles because of elite
).
The game itself is great as I hoped, even in my sleepy hangover state, I got sucked in and completed almost all scenarios in one go, few observations..
Planets seem to flicked (ATi/xfire issue?). Xfire seems to be actually working (or at least doesn't crash the game), surprisingly.
For people with older rigs, I have following setup:
Phenom x4 955 @ 3,8-4GHz (I think now I have it clocked at 3,8)
8GB ram
ATi hd6850 x2
ASUS M5A99FX evo
Playing at 1080p, high details, with AA and such, without any lags and completely smooth, including Factions scenario, kudos to FD. Will check how much fps I actually have and update the thread, if someone would be interested.
I am playing on keyboard+mouse at the moment, but it isn't as bad as some posts would make me think. Only difficulty I have is with fine aiming, I would imagine it is easier with a good stick. So tomorrow I'll be picking up a joystick and 3DTV glasses, to check how the 3d works.
Now the gameplay. First thought when I loaded up the canisters mission: "I have no idea what am I doing.." After rolling aimlessly and checking key binds again and again (seemed like an awful lot of keys at a first glance^^), I kicked some canister ass. From there on, I slowly got used to flying and managing power systems.
It was smooth sailing, until first problem with the "stay hidden from cobra and kill feds" mission. I got detected very quickly, even though I dispatched the cobra, I still felt like I kinda failed the point of the mission.
Did Anyone manage to complete it, while staying completely hidden? How? Multi cannon only, systems off?
I got my first death in the multiple contacts mission, you vs the fed patrol. On the second try I managed to beat them though.
Side note question about the anaconda Big Score with fed escort...Does it return fire? It seems to shoot only at the start, then just runs away.
From weapon set ups, I really liked the multicannons, though my favorite FFE beams seemed a bit underwhelming. I guess it will get better as my aim gets better. On the other hand, pulse lasers seemed plain stronger than beams.
Side note - I kept firing missiles by accident
.
And failing to charge railgun (always starts to charge, but not fire). I assume it was because of heat.
So, after beating the scenarios, I loaded up Incursion and start to wipe out. I got to the second(I think, with few sidewinders) multiple contact wave and with my shields are too depleted, hull damaged, I didn't survive the first joust.
At least I had a reason to finally go to bed
.
I think I had some more questions, but I can't remember now, maybe it will come to me again, when I play some more.
To sum up, I'm already glad I spent the money and can't wait till the beta opens
.
