Finally, double elite.

Took a couple on months off and on but, I finally made double Elite. One in exploring and the other in trade.
Does any one know how many Elite's I have to destroy from from Master 62% to Elite. I'm thinking about a thousand.

First off, congrats... Trade and exploration are certainly the quicker of the Elite rankings to achieve.

With regards to combat, being Master 62%, you've got a way to go to get to Elite. And it gets slower with each rank you progress. I wouldn't like to say how many Elite ranked ships you would need to destroy to get there, but to put it in perspective, once you get to Deadly you will be about half way to Elite, so you'll need to get the same number of 'kill points' to get from Deadly to Elite as you got to get from Harmless to Deadly - so quite a few more than you have got so far... :)

But the good news is that every kill is worth something, even once you get to Deadly.

About 1800 Elite rated kills from the last rank to Elite itself, you may not be at the last rank though....

Harmless count for 0 points at Deadly, there is a chart on wiki somewhere of what rank counts for how many points depending on your rank and the numbers are in the small print.

Assuming wiki is up to date?

It's my understanding that once I make Deadly, destroying Harmless and Mostly Harmless only gets me their bounties. It does nothing to my Elite progress.

Im presently at master 62%. I'm only going to concentrate on the progression until I get dangerous. That opens up the last of the bubble engineer's. The rest of the way to Elite will just happen, someday.

No longer correct. While lower ranked kills get you very little, they do give some points. When I was Deadly I would see my progress bar increase even when the only things I had destroyed were skimmers, all of which are Harmless.

We need a new chart then. Heres the old one, probably not too far off but maybe have added some points for all ranks or skimmers are a special case for some reason.

I just looked at this site, though it may be old. I'm not aware of a more up to date one. If it's still correct, apparently I can't bother with the four lowest rated pilots. I though it was only the lower two.

At any rate, it's gonna be a long haul from the start of dangerous to Elite. Once I've got Lori Jameson unlocked and grade 5'd. I'll have all the engineer's in the bubble done. The rest of the way to Elite will just happen.

Yes, that chart is not correct, but it's a small thing, and I'm not sure anyone (other than the devs) know exactly how much xp low ranking enemies give.

It's been this way for quite a while, and it was a change that was made and listed in the patch notes for an update, and I can't remember which one, it really has been this way for a while - as in years. The patch note was along the lines of 'changed it so that even low ranking enemies give some combat xp'. The skimmers were just an example of how low ranking kills still gave a small increase, and one which I actually saw as I did a lot of kill skimmer missions at the time, and every now and then my progress would increase by a percentage point.

If someone is actively trying to increase their rank, then obviously they should concentrate on the highest ranks they can destroy, as that will be faster.

Edit - The change was made in patch 2.2.0.2 - November 2016

- Ensure a minimum amount of Combat rank progression is always awarded, even when the Commanders and NPC crew have a significantly higher rank than the losing pilot

You have to kill about 6500 ships of mixed high rank, like you find at a CNB, haz RES or High RES. At master level, you have probably about 5500 to go. When you reach Deadly, it's about 3500 to go. If you kill Thargoid Scouts, it's about 2500 from start (or was that from Deadly?)

My preferred method is to engineer long range pulse lasers, long range sensors and make your ship as fast as possible, then go to a high RES. Log until you get a high spawn of small ships. With the Feds ganking everything in sight, you can get a very high rate of kills. You need the long range weapons to get in a shot before the feds finish them off.
