Finally Elite in Exploration, thanks for the acces to Founder's World!

Lucky me, I set off on my last exploration trip being 86% into Pioneer. Have been playing the game since it was a set of tutorial-like missions, when we had those five starter system, the First Bubble, the Pill, and finally the full galaxy to explore. It's taken a while even as my activity has been exploration, as I've been distracted by betas and then set the game aside for a bit before delving into the live upgrades.

But after 3 years I finally got there. And getting to Elite status didn't disappoint - I now have access to Jameson Memorial...

It's not so much being butthurt that missions counts towards ranks, it's just that the ranks got borderline pointless because of it. Trade Elite in a night? Exploration elite in a few hours, both from a new starter account? Yeah, that's not the Elite it used to be.
But congratulations to Sysmon!

Thank you all. I'm still finding ways to extend the duration of getting to trade/combat Elite towards eternity. By, for example, following canyon systems for hours, doing low orbit around high metal content worlds dreaming of landing there. Driving aimlessly around in my SRV or trying to climb a particularly bumpy looking cliff-face. And of course avoiding combat while mining sedately in pretty sparkly ice rings.

I'm one of those overnighters, almost, bought a second account and decided to use it solely for the exploration arm of my main account. So worked my way up to a DBX and headed to the Black, took over 10k first discoveries and a 24k Ly trip, but was able to return to the bubble with enough data to push me over the Elite mark in exploration, have virtually no other rank and have been able to unlock a few more engineers. With the proceeds from that trip was able to buy and outfit an exploraconda that has a 60 Ly range. I am on my way now to see the Wizard at Beagle Point and get my 3 wishes.....maybe see you out in the black, but I doubt it since I travel in the shadows......

To contrast, I'm one of those "no shortcuts" types. Not because I feel it's better or more authentic or anything like that. I just like exploration so pretty much all I do in the game in roam around in the black. I'm a kickstarter founder, so I had Founder's World access from the start of the game, which led to me not caring too much about my various ranks. I've noticed that it has gotten easier to rank up as the game evolved - UC data rewards have significantly gone up over the life of the game, for instance - so there is a change there. All the same, getting to Elite requires effort, and any time anyone accrues enough time in the black to get Elite status, no matter what they've done to get it*, it's an achievement. Congrats, Sysmon!

*Those of you who have been around for a while will remember a very similar "debate" over the validity of using the Neutron Fields to farm elite. My views are still the same: If you're enough of an explorer to go out to the core and safely farm neutron stars, or if you're enough of an explorer to reliably carry out missions to what are arguably very nice points of interest, then you're a solid explorer. Done and done.

Being a backer as well, my post was meant to be a bit facetious: I've always had access to Shinrarta Dezhra. I did find it funny though that the game stated I received the permit when I hit exploration Elite. Seems many of the work flows are still a bit simplistic (another bugbear of mine is the constant reminder that materials are listed in the system map for landable bodies every time we scan something, it being neutron stars, water worlds or actually landable bodies).

The debate about neutron star farming back in the days was mainly about gaming the system, so to speak: How to fastest make credits using exploration and in the process not caring about the spirit of exploration. I think it is a fair point to frown at making exploration into a credit grind that way. But without much else to do as explorers except marvel at weirdness from time to time, I don't blame people for just heading out to get credits and get their names on things. Until we get other tags to add, such as "first explored by" whoever first entered the atmosphere of or a landed on a body, get ability to sample and map and prospect and so on, then exploration will continue to be a bit shallow and making the galaxy feel oddly small.

At least now I'm back in the bubble and can start trying out some of the improvements over the last few patches. Until the wanderlust bites again and off I go...
