Finally made it to Duke

Well, i finally made it to Duke and have my shiny new Cutter. It was a long and painfull task, i have done almost nothing else since the expansion, i cant even guess at the hours iv put in, easily over 100.

The first half i did more or less the conventional way by doing missions. I got sick to death of doing missions and resorted to the LTT 911 charity missions trick for the rest. Incidentally to gettting to Duke i also got to Vice Admiral, lol. I think the process cost me in the region of 30 million credits. I would like to give my thanks to all the people that have posted tips and strategies for this process.

Having a broken mission system as the only way of gaining rank really is a cruel thing for FD to do to us. They came very very close to this player uninstalling the game. Its kinda sad, but if FD ever fix the missions i will not know about it because i will never do another mission in this game, ever.

I would like to say one thing that i hope someone from FD will see. This game is nothing short of brilliant in so many ways. Space flight, combat, sound, visuals, stability, i could go on and on about where they got it right. Sadly they have failed in the game design department in respect of 'things to do' in this wonderfull galaxy they have created. If FD could bring in a reputable designer to give them some guidance i think that could make this game into one of the all time greats. FD please please, at least get a second opinion from an experienced outsider.

Congrats and I agree with your sentiments, I rarely knock aspects of the game since all in all, its pretty fantastic and I've definitely had my money's worth of enjoyment. But I agree FD might do well to consult with some experienced game designers from an outside entity and then have a good think on what suggestions/revisions are in line with their overall vision of ED's universe, character and then branch out a bit from the existing mission architecture and signal source mechanics.

Missions are improved lately and more diverse for sure, but it still somehow feels like more of the same. Perhaps patience is in order, season 2 content sounds promising and 2.0 brings an excellent technical framework on which to hang some great gameplay down on the surfaces. I hope they are brave and try a few novel ideas!
