Finally returning from Distant Worlds!

Fellow explorers,

I am just now making the long trip back to inhabited space from the Distant Worlds expedition. I am roughly 30K Ly's from Sagg A on the far side of the galaxy. I have not played Elite regularly since about 2 months after the end of the trek and am now looking to return all that juicy data and plug back into Elite. It seems aliens have popped up since I left but they seem non hostile so far. I am looking for a bit of advice on how best to re-enter the known universe and sell data. Any thoughts on what would be the best course? I'm in an anaconda and am friendly with the federation and the empire. I will probably ask someone to wing up with me outside known space and escort me to my final destination as I'm not outfitted for combat. Is it worth selling all my data at colonia or should I go back to empire space? Other than what I've asked, what have been the high points in the explorer community in the last year? Thanks!

Welcome back, Commander!

If you have Horizons, I would suggest holding on to around 10M or so (maybe more) of your data to use on building rep with Engineers after you return.

As for high points, I would say that this qualifies:

Long read, but worth every word. Don't skip to the end.

Riot,

Thanks! That was an amazing story! Are there any systems in particular that I should go for the engineer faction? How about interdiction's? The prior to leaving for Distant Worlds, there seemed to be quite a high incidence of them from pirates. Have they toned that down at all?

Have any cargo? Cargo affects your chances.
Stay in unpopulated systems until you reach a high security system to sell your data.

Farseer Inc is the engineer you should see first if you want a modded FSD. It's in Deciat, a high security system near the edge of the bubble (Coalsack/Barnards Loop side).
She wont accept the data however until you give her a Meta-Alloy and relog. Met Alloys are bought in Maia which is a low security system, increasing the risk of interdiction.

You could maybe request an escort when you are almost home. Some people may even bring you the meta alloy and escort you to the base.

You can now filter your galaxy map for high sec / medium sec systems and then apply that filter to your route, so you can use that to avoid anarchies etc when your back in the bubble. Also, try to avoid any system in war / civil war / famine / retreat states. When you finally reach your target system, don't travel directly to the station unless it's very close. Loop out a bit as this will take you out of the shipping lanes where interdictions are more likely.

As Murf says, don't have any cargo on board. It's an interdiction magnet!

And if, on the extremely rare off-chance that you do get interdicted, submit to it, 4 pips to shields, select a star from the left hand menu and high wake out as soon as you can. In an un-engineered Anaconda, you'll never out-run whatever's interdicted you, and high waking will negate any mass lock if it's another Anaconda or bigger ship (never been interdicted by anything bigger than an Anaconda, even when I'm in a Corvette / Cutter).

Fly safe Commander o7

I would suggest returning via Colonia. It is stil relatively safe compared to the bubble and would enable you to sell your data and get any repairs you may need. You can also pick up an SRV for the last leg home if you don't have one.

Depending on your timing, I can possibly provide escort services. Got a modified Vulture (24 LY) and would be willing to meet you in the deep.

Thanks for the info guys. So I should save 10mil worth of data to sell for farseer inc rep? It's been a while since I've sold data. Can you tell how much you have left? And Chrystoph, I'll arrange a rendevoux when I'm a bit closer. Will probably head to colonia after sagg A then come directly home.
