Finally taken the time to play...

So I bought this game back when it was released, and played for about a total of an hour and then life got in the way. Well I finally sat down to give it another go over the weekend, and I am loving it.

I started out using method that takes you to a high resource area and blasting pirates once the good guys had them down to around 40% or so. Made a quick 2 million credits and bought the next ship and equipped it for mining. That was a very frustrating experience, but I actually truly enjoyed mining, just not in such a small ship where I can only hold 12 limpets and have not quite mastered the ability to prospect asteroids for the LTDs. After hours of attempting to mine, I netted a whopping 3 LTDs and some other junk, but between the discovery sales and what I did mine, I netted another 4.5 million.

I am now in a Type 6 outfitted for passenger missions and am doing the Robigo runs. It takes me 3 jumps to get to the destination and 3 back, however, the round trip is like 15 minutes and has been netting me anywhere from 2 to 4 million a run. I am assuming once my reputation is higher this will go up substantially based on what I have seen others making on youtube.

So here I sit with about 17 million credits plus my fully loaded ship, and I can't wait to see what comes next. So far I dabbled in combat a little in the beginning, mined, and transported people, and I can honestly say I have enjoyed all of it. I definitely want to give mining another go once I have a ship that makes it easier and can figure out how to find what I am looking for.

So hey to everyone, and I hope to see ya in space.

Update

I am now in a dolphin and have am sitting with 140 Million credits. Haven't had a ton of time to play during the week but been doing runs an hour a day. I was going to move on and try and do something else for a bit but I wanted to get all my reps at Robigo to Allied. I am kinda a completionist, and my OCD won't let me leave till it's done.

So what's next? Maybe a ship to do some bounty hunting and work on combat rating? Is there somewhere good anyone can recommend for that? Was also thinking about some exploration. Any suggestions would be great.

Elite and OCD are a volatile mix.

My bounty hunting ship progression went Eagle then Viper 3 then Vulture then FDL. Of course with 140 million in your pocket you could have your pick really. Despite that, I would suggest trying one or two of the less expensive ones, not only to experience them before moving on to the heavy hitters, but to keep your re-buy down as you acclimate to the combat. I'd say Vulture, but it's a personal thing and pick what looks good to you.

As to where, any Resource Extraction Site is good, which you'll find virtually anywhere there is a ring. At first, stick to the ones not labelled Hazardous, as these do not have cops on patrol. My personal favorite place to hunt is a Compromised Nav Beacon. Between these two types of locations you'll find plenty of bounties.

For exploration I'd say DBX or AspX but there are many choices these days. Depending on your willingness to be gone a while, I'd recommend picking a destination at least 5000 light years from your starting system. That's a minor league distance really, but it will fulfill one of the requirements for engineers should you choose to pursue that. I chose Jellyfish Nebula for mine for what it's worth. It's off the beaten track so I ended up with a few hundred first discoveries (this was in 2017), which is what I wanted. Happy hunting!

thank you for the info. The vulture is what I had my eye on. Also good to know about the hazardous extraction sites and explains why I flew around in one of those for like 45 minutes to make my first couple mill and couldn’t figure out why no police were shooting pirates. Lol.

You're welcome. One thing I should add is that if you are going hunting ensure you are carrying no cargo so that the pirates don't attack you first.

Thank you. Quick question is there a good place to go where I buy a vulture and the upgrades in the same place or at least same area instead of flying all over the universe looking?

I've always heard the Diaguandri system was very good for outfitting.
Also, it's in Li Yong-Rui controlled space which gives you a good discount on everything.

I'm not sure the stations in there sell the Vulture, but I think the outfitting is likely quite good.
Hope it helps. All the best on your flights. 07

Unless you have access to Shinrarta Dezhra I think the answer is no. Some stations are better than others. What I've been doing when I buy a new ship is fly there in my DBX, which jumps 70+. I then fly that home or to a better module station, then whistle for the new ship. That saves you from flying your E-rated FSD new ship anywhere. I almost always buy this stuff in a Li Yong-Rui system for the discount.

Are you familiar with EDDB? This site is essential for me. Put your current location in as the reference, then use the drop downs for the ship type or module you want. Run through the modules you want to see which station sells most of them, but start with the FSD!

I'd second the suggestion for a Vulture. Once you get it engineered, it is a mean little ship. Punches well above it's weight class.

And it's got a cheap rebuy.

Fix the PP/PD, get the shield resistances over 40 percent, and the rest of the build will shine regardless of what you put there.

Isnt there one system that has everything, but its marked up? I forget the name
I can't remember its name for a while.

This is what you are thinking of:

No, the things in shin are marked down. Theres another system where everything is more expensive.
I was not too sure as I was a K/S backer and the discount was part of my rewards.
It might have been a discount on insurance. Long time ago.

here's a way to ramp up credits via trade route. Consider space Ubering or trucking NPC business & economy class on short jumps in the bubble. Go the negliglibe risk route and avoid doing the multi-million credit, deep space tourist round trip cruises (to often dangerous systems with Goids/pirates etc). The average profit for these per LY is typically less than Ubering NPCs within the safety of the bubble. Also avoid transporting any political/military or high level criminals. You should make a decent tens of millions in credits at minimum risk to buy a decent mining ship. If you're more into the exploration side of things and like to go places while making profit, there is always the Road to Riches highway. This has been covered exhaustively on reddit, youtube and this forum.
