Finally! (thanks to 3.0) I have a Corvette...(now with vid in post 110)

edit: Video of solo wing assassination in the new corvette... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...e-a-Corvette?p=6533846&viewfull=1#post6533846

Original post follows...

Well, for better or worse, the new mission choices of rep over anything else made the final leg (from Post Captain 10% to Rear Admiral) trivial. I did it in one 2 hour play session last night.

Went straight to Magnus Gateway, bought me a Corvette, painted it black, basked for about 5 minutes, then went to bed. Now I just need 800m more credits to outfit it how I want it. lol.

Couple of quick questions for experienced corvette owners.

Which hardpoints best suit turrets (have greatest field of fire)? (I will be running two huge PAs for sure, so those slots are taken)
What Shield Cell Bank configuration is optimal and how many heatsinks will I need for it?
Boosters configuration?
Anyone running low mj biweave? Or is it a no brainer to go pure MJ, boosters and cells, over a fast biweave and lots of hull?

Any other tips welcome, including flying technique, first time I will fly a big ship. Mainly bought it for clearing out Hazreses and CZs (with pvp level resistances and dps). Cheers!

Use a fighter bay. Get an NPC pilot and give them fixed weapons, they'll be a bit better at it than most players.
Practice using FA-Off to bring the guns to bear.
It's a tossup on shield banks - A-grade are (a LOT) lighter than B-grade, but B-grade carries one extra charge in them. So depends on whether you plan on shield-tanking or taking advantage of the better speed/maneuverability afforded by having less weight. (Plus slightly better jump range...)

Cheers, I've already got a good red shirt and he always uses plasma repeaters. ;) Thanks for the thought on b rated cells, I'm full reactive plus hull reinforcements, so a little extra weight won't make much difference I reckon.

As another thought, I hear some horror stories involving turrets, often drawing in targets with fire that you otherwise wouldn't have wanted joining the fight. Have you considered compromising there and using gimbaled weapons?

I have considered using gimbals, I guess I'll have to see what suits me better in that regard when the time comes. Aside from the PAs and rails which are on every ship I fly, I want 3 scramble spectrum long range pulses (for two reasons, random pvp and for chasing down small ships), ideally the large and 2 mediums, but only if they are suitable for turrets, I understand some hardpoints are better than others (which?). If using turrets I will set them to my target only, but also, with a corvette, I don't really care who else gets drawn in, the more the merrier. ;)

Keep those thoughts coming. :)

Congratulations on the Corvette. Now all you need is the pink paint job and the stick-on tat from the ship kit and you’re good to go. :)

If you have her unlocked, pay a visit to Selene Jean (or go to the nearby orbital station with a shipyard with a smaller ship and send for the Vette at the end of your play session so it's not such a trudge jumping it there.) Never hurts to give it a thicker skin. :)

And if you have any old engineered modules, consider converting when possible. Some of the penalties like power draw, distributor draw and heat generation are considerably less. Reinforce shields lowered the Broken Regen penalty and did away with the regular regen penalty entirely.

Great thing is, if you take the High Charge experimental.. you can get grade 5 re-enforced shields and actually up your Broken Regen time by 5%.

Oh god, don't remind me, I still have 30-ish HRPs to re-engineer across my fleet (although some of those ships are now going to be sold to pay for Vette outfitting). I've been playing 3 years and I'm a decent combat pilot, only new to the Vette, but I'm not complaining at all about folks going over the basics, not least of all it might be useful for others reading this for the same advice, plus, you never know if I might have missed something, I seem to learn 'something' new every day on the forums. Cheers again!

Armor in Coriolis is now at about 5000, but they haven't updated the new engineering values and specials yet, so I'm not sure where it'll end up, probably over 5000, and that's with some utility as well (2 cell banks, fuel scoop, fighter bay, 2 MRPs), as well as 56% armor resist to everything. I consider myself pretty good at the minmaxing part, I'm a natural number cruncher and optimizer. :)

The medium hardpoints are side mounted towards the prow IIRC too wide for anything fixed except on big targets, I tried pulse turrets in them and they track and fire well at things above you as you pull up onto the target to bring the plasma accelerators to bear.

I settled on gimballed long range cannons for them and the two small hardpoints, pre damage nerf anyway. I've found in PVE you don't really need anything other than the two huge PA's.

I've got a gimbaled corrosive MC in the large hardpoint lift the nose give the a target a burst for the corrosive effect but aside from that I completely ignore it as it spends a lot of it's time with no line of fire.

I love a pair of high mag pack hounds to swat eagles and other small fries. Fire and collect. ^^

I still don't have any PP modules, sad I know. APAs are top of the list, closely followed by Imp Hammers and then packhounds. I'll get there eventually. ;) Thanks for the idea, definitely something I'd like to do!

In relation to the turrets you can set them to shoot your targets only. Heres a vdeo of me with 2 huge PAs and the rest turrtes. Notice how quickly i demollish the First ship. The Alpha strike on this thing is beast. PS i dont know why the video starts at the 11 minute mark but just reset it to the start and youl see.

The reason i love these turrets is they take care of the smaller ships but also keep pinging the bigger ships while i bring the main point of the Corvette to bear - that being the Dual Huge PAs.

Useful info, thanks, can't give you more rep yet.

All of them except for the Dual Class 4 Slots work well with Turreted weapons. I run (3) banks of Heat Sinks and (2) 7A SCBs. (3) A Class Shield Boosters G5 upgraded.

My load out:

Dual G5 Efficient Weapon* Upgraded 4A Beam Lasers, a legacy G5 Advanced Plasma Accelerator in the Class 3 Belly Mount slot, and the rest G5 Engineered Turreted MCs with Corrosive Shell Exp applied.

Shields are 8A Prismatic with G5 upgraded Enhanced Low Power Shields.

* The ship can't run stock 4A Beam Lasers. You need a G5 level Efficient Weapon Upgrade in order for them to be useable, but when they are, they are devastating against pretty much everything. Add the Adv. Plasma to that mix and you are dealing some serious hurt.

The Vette is the only ship with Dual-Side By Side Class 4 Mounts. Don't waste them on an inferior weapon choice. I see that noob mistake all over the game!

I've been flying my Corvette since the day it was introduced into the game. GREAT SHIP! [up]
