It occurs to me that it would be negligent of me not to post it here as well.
AI War, a fairly niche game by an, at the time, small indie developer, was released first independently, then on impulse, then Desura and then Steam (I think - something like that)
For those interested, here is a link to an analysis of their sales and so-on, over the lifetime of the game so far. It is information intended to benefit other developers.
