Find a god a hotas setup help ?

So my 4th X52 Pro hotas died 2 of them dead on arrival 2 of them stoped working after 6 months
(loved the ergonomics and palmrest on the highest settings) got no big hands ;)

Well I currently seen so much reviews from all kind of hotas pros and cons my head is spinning.

I been looking at the Trustmasters Warthog hotas but that req pedals I need twist
( even stumbled over a great deal of broken ones)

I been looking at vkb joysticks sold out and not much for spacesims

The logitech G X56 Rhino seem to have buttons for every need in spacesims but very large stick

I think I need some input and help please?

I use the Thrustmaster Warthog with Saitek pedals.
They work like a charm, but it really needs time
to adapt to pedals from twist-sticks.

The quality and lighting was the selling point to me,
also the additional mini-joystick on the throttle is
great for lateral/vertical thrust axis.

and the accuracy on the warthog is better ?

The accuracy is superb,
after 2 weeks of getting used to it.
When you unpack it, it is pretty stiff,
especially has some real resistance before the deadzone is left.
But you can make it work quickly doing some CZ or rez hunting
in a small nimble ship.
Pedals however need a lot of adjustment, i go with a rather high
resistance on them, as my feet aren't that much accustomed to pedals.

nothing of all these options ... X5x Series from Saitek (now LogiCrap) are well known for failures (design-flaws) and in the end they are overpriced - iam very happy now with DUAL-Joystick setups - yes, no more Hotas and i dont miss the Throttle. You can get a pair of Thrustmaster T16000 (new Version) for around 110Euros. The hall-sensor works perfect - i´ve tried a lot and these sticks a worth the money and give me a very good feeling and immersion.

The Thrustmaster is one of the most cost-effective options I've seen in various advice threads. I personally fly a full CH products HOTAS but not everyone has the space nor even wants pedals and there are good alternatives out there. Thankfully Elite is super forgiving of multiple controller arrangements and I have seen all kinds of setups out there.

My Thrustmaster Warthog broke within 2 months of use.
I am now exchanging emails with customer service to rectify this so in the mean time I have brought a Cobra M5 and a Thrustmaster TWCS throttle for my daily ED fix.

Both working well but compared to the Warthog, feel very toy like

Oh boy, a fresh HOTAS thread!

I am sold on the CH HOTAS. Glorious. I notice it's currently leading the poll. It's got very light action, and they last forever. But the CH pedals look a bit close together for me (The nutcrackers. I haven't used them in a decade). I have also been looking at the Logitech Saitek rudders, because of the extra space between the footrests.

As far as rudders, I also have studio isolation cabs (for my home studio) under my gaming desk, and my shins kinda go straight down when I'm sitting. I don't have room to stretch my legs forward, so I'm thinking about building a rudder system that lets me use my stronger leg muscles to shove down/up instead of away-from-me/closer-to-me. I also want a pressure-indicator for "center", instead of any indent or notch. I've found a great usb-2 controller with tons of axis and button mappings, and I think I'm going to order it and build a nice pedal set from metal stock, which lets me use more up/down than near/far, and gives me tight-jeans room and fits under my desk. Here is the controller I'm going to use, if anyone is interested: http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=94&products_id=204

Details: It's $32, 25 GBP.
8 analog inputs with 12-bit (4096 steps) resolution each
32 button / 16 rotary encoder inputs
8-way "point-of-view" hat switch input
Native Windows support, saves any settings, has unique serial number.

It would also be great for a 32-button custom box, so I am thinking of taking it up to my desk to a button enclosure, and then with a detachable tether which goes down to the rudders. But that takes away the cost advantage so that may come later. I'll probably use cheap expression pedals for the footrests / toe brakes.

Part of me just wants to buy the new cheap Thrustmaster pedals, and call it a day, but money is tight and I don't want to throw it at something I won't really like. The downside to building something is that I may have to build two, since my wife games. So I'll be doubling up on materials if I go to home depot and if I actually start on my spaceship-rudders with variable push-angle. _/ Then if she wants one I can order a new USB board.

Saitek was pretty and promising but the failures are known. If they start making them as well as the Extreme 3D Pro stick, they'll own the market, but I wouldn't make that bet. I wish, though. I wish. Maybe in a few years.

:D I guess you've had it with Saitek, Sozzac! I'm really happy with my X-55 and Pro Flight pedals, but you've already been more than patient with the company, I'm not going to try and persuade you to try a fifth time!

If I was starting again I think I'd go with the T.1600M FCS. It's reasonably priced, the old T-Flight it's based on is an excellent stick- mine saw a couple of years of pretty hard use before I upgraded to the X-55- and best of all, it's been developed with Elite Dangerous in mind! Sounds like a winning package, if you ask me.

I'd try a Warthog before you start throwing down the big bucks. I really didn't like the throttle and not everyone gets on with the stick. Pedals are great, but if you're used to a twist grip and you can get all the same functionality in a far cheaper and (in my opinion) more comfortable setup, why go to all that extra expense? I suspect a lot of people are buying the Warthog for snob value- it's expensive, so it must be good, right? ;)

ergonomical I wouldnt mind a god x52 pro
but I realy not sure after seen how they make them all hotas look crap.inside cheap internals I realy not impressed

how loong have you been using the x55?
the x56 is the new one but my hands are small and just loved the x52 pro well I bought it for that reason I no troll with grimlock hands more of elf hands lol

and this. t16000 I tried it dont like.the throttle very plastic feel comp to x52 pro

T 16000m FCS Stick & throttle.

Agree. I just got one a month ago and it's a champ. Unparalleled degree of control compared to other hotas setups. Had to change from the default setting to match my preferences, and now it's pretty much the best.

Could be better though. The construction is solid enough to be serviceable, but I wish they would make a version of the FCS that of a similar build quality as the Warthog. Can't complain though, it seems plenty solid enough to last a couple years of heavy use. By the time it needs replacing, hopefully they will have built a "pro" version :)

Btw, i used to have a x52 pro. Even when it isn't acting buggy or requiring macguyver repairs, it's a clunky nightmare compared to the Thrustmaster 16000 FCS.

So, as I understand it from the title, OP, you're a god and you need a HOTAS setup? Or is it that a god needs a HOTAS setup, and sent you you as the person to locate it?

Just kidding. I hope you find what you're looking for :)

Buy two X52s and make sure you keep the receipts. Saitek support is really good. It takes about 3 weeks from first contact until you get your brand new replacement. They're guaranteed for two years, so each time one breaks, send it back and use the other one. At the end of 2 years, you'll still have two working ones, so all in all, you should get at least 3 years use for £200, by which time there may be better ones.

Interested to see how these are:

http://virpil.com

They're having hosting issues at the moment, so the site might not come up. They're making a HOTAS based on the T-50. Stick is plastic, but the more important bit, the gimbal, is all metal and has separate tension adjustments for each axis. Price is going to be $texas, though.

Hello-
I've Just come back to the game after a year and I now have the same controllers as you have.
- M5 Cobra & TWCS Throttle
Would it be possible to send me a copy of your bindings file so that I can use them in elite.
Very much appeciated, if you can.
Thanks

You can't get anything better than the Thrustmaster Warthog for now. Precise Hall Effect controls and built to last. After 2 years I had to do some disassembly to clean the gunk off of some of the switches, and the Pinkey Switch on the throttle is a bit worn. Other than that, they still work as well as the day I bought them, maybe even better. I modified the springs on the Joystick to lower the resistance yet allow it to return to center. I can't foresee needing anything else.

Slaw Device Rudder Pedals are probably the best available, but they are not easy to get. Slaw is a craftsman in Poland who only makes them to order and the transaction/pre-payment has to be done when they are ready via international bank transfer. I don't have a concern doing this, but it is a bit unconventional and may not be comfortable for everyone.

I don't believe he makes the BF-109 model anymore. Too bad, they are so comfortable and so easy to use. He's now making F-16 style peddals. A more modern look, but I'll stay with the BF-109 model - really glad to have gotten one of the last pair he made.

Edit: I just checked his Facebook page and it does look like he's making a pedal similar to the BF-109, called Dora.

Anyone who wants to spend $500+ should contact Slaw.

They ain't cheap - but you get what...
