Lets start with, I'm new to Odyssey. I was trying to complete a " Find Weapons Schematics" in a salvage (on foot) mission. I found several cases, opened panels, and scanned a body, no schematics. The time ran out so I lost a little rep, but can anyone tell me specifically what I did wrong, and how i can go about NOT doing it again.

you did nothing wrong it's just buggy server's if a mission item does not appear retreat back to ship log out and back in and recheck location for item
itsa pain but you may even have to do this multiple times for the mission item to successfully appear...……………….
(but is usually ok after 1 relog maybe two rarely 3 for me)
get used to relogging for any missing items in game is highly recommended and unfortunately nessar for mission success

Ah, ok. Well that seems to be a pain, but it's the price to pay for being a Commander, I guess.
imagine being sent an order to retrive an item for an on foot 20click tab only to find it not there is actually very realistic but still...……………..
I take the easy way
I take missions to get them from crash sites, then I keep them, failing the mission
I can always fix my rep, but hoping to find one at a settlement and not getting caught, just soo much easier to do the POI ones
they are often all buggy but it usually only takes 1 relog to get it right
settlements are far worse though.
the poi ones have other things to offer to, that make it worth relogging a few times
