Find Surface Mission using FSS

Is there a way to find a surface mission using the FSS? i have scanned all bodies in a system but it doesn't show. i scan the Nav Beacon to find it. Just curious what i am missing if they can be found using the FSS.

I don't think FSS will find surface features as the module detailed surface scanner is intended for that. Regarding mission specific targets i think FSS will only pick up those that are in space like signal sources.

i reported the bug where the location target jumps around (violently) before you finally get a proper lock on it. i never saw your report and during the beta i thought i was doing something wrong when trying to find it.

I don’t know if you got your answer- but I just ran some “recover bootleg liquor” missions that are also “surface searches”...

So step 1 - arrive in system —> scan nav beacon...

You should get a message from Mission giver - telling you which body to “search”...

Step 2: fly to the body (may also now be highlighted in Navigation tab)

Step 3: DSS scan the body / or simply get close ....the “search area” will show up as a surface target when you get less than @ 10 Mm (10,000 km) from body

Tip: To make finding the search zone “more challenging” (read: annoying) - FDev has the search zone target zone “dance around” several times.....The first jump typically occurs just as you are about to reach the “drop” altitude....Try to flatten out / parallel to the surface to trigger the first jump (can be several hundred kms!) - as you then are still in SC - simply nose up / gain some altitude - and fly to “new” search area...then it still zigs & zags a bit during your glide descent - but not more than @ 10 km from where your glide ends...

That first bounce wasn't there to begin with, and the original mechanic was kinda neat (if somewhat contrived)... but now that first jump, man, such a PITA, and if you're on a high-gravity world, because drop altitude is higher, you're unlikely to get that first bounce :/

I'm sure I've had at least one case where the first "correction" was 1Mm off the original spot. And nine times out of ten the last shift is behind you - you've just flown over it.
It's also puzzling that the scanner seems unable to identify any more accurately the location of well-lit buildings with defensive installations compared to a stash of unguarded commodity containers.
