Newcomer / Intro Find the Rebel Transmissions?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to Elite Dangerous (and space games in general), and I was wondering how to find one of those rebel transmissions I have to search. I took a mission and thought that maybe, I'd have some indications as to where these transmissions are, but I couldn't find anything near the system indicated by the mission, even with the scanner. What do I have to do?

Welcome to the Elite Dangerous universe Commander! You can easily find Rebel Transmissions by jumping into a system and visiting an Unidentified Signal Source (USS). Some of these will contain other ships, other cargo, and rebel tranmissions (you will find these items in the Contacts section of your Navigation Panel). If you do not see a rebel transmission; enter Super Cruise and search for the next USS. A USS will pop up in your ship's navigational panel when in range of one. Simply lock onto it and navigate towards the signal. When close enough, drop out of Super Cruise. Good luck!

You're looking for USS (aka Unidentified Signal Sources). The mission itself should list the system that you have to look in (left UI - Transactions tab - select mission). Jump to that system and fly around in supercruise (SC) for a bit until you see a USS. Generally speaking you should find the transmissions in the first couple USSs, but don't lose hope if you don't - it's out there somewhere.

Edit: Ninja'd

I hope the rebel transmissions bulletin board item has been fixed. It was not working for me just 2 days ago, and I've not seen a fix in any changelogs.. It gives me a cannot connect to server message...

Hi,

With these sorts of missions you have to fly to the system indicated (sometimes it's clear, sometimes a bit vague), stay in supercruise and look for unidentified signal source or USS, either visually or in your nav panel. May take a few minutes of crusing about but when you find one, lock on and fly to it and drop out of SC as you would for any other target. If you're lucky you'll see some white targets which may be what you're after (or maybe not - keep trying)You then have to open your cargo hatch and manoeuvre to scoop it up... then simply take back to whoever asked for it.

Oh, and this is illegal stuff, so best be sneaky sneaky on your way back into the station or you'll loose a fair chunk of your payment in fines for carrying dodgy gear if you get scanned by the feds.

Go to the system that they are in, and fly around (doesn't matter what speed, something I complained about in the past). When you see a USS (Unidentified Signal Source) fly towards it as if it was a station or planet, so you can get within the safe dropout speed/range. It might not be in the first one, but you'll find one with some wreckage and a bunch of floating cannisters, marked Rebel Transmissions. Scoop them up, enough for the mission, and head back to collect.

One thing, usually doing this is an illegal activity, so you will need to make sure you slip into the station without being scanned. Not sure how much the fine is, but it's more the rep hit that you want to avoid. There are a few ways to do this, either by luck and speed, or by stealthiness.

Thanks, I think I got it! But what do those USS look like exactly? A particular icon or color on the minimap, maybe?

If you look in your nav panel, you will see what is around. If you lock onto a location an icon will appear to the right next to the distance. When I have done other types of missions, I have seen the USS have a blue icon next to it. When I drop out, it is usually an NPC that wants to buy either my delivery or cargo. I do not do illegal activity so I do not know if this will happen for this instance.

I was able to intercept live space craft carrying rebel transmissions and they're usually outlaws anyways so shooting their hatch subsystem and stealing the transmissions isn't that difficult. These ships can be intercepted at a nav beacon that are located around the more populated systems. You need either gimballed multicannons or hatch hacking capability, and a cargo scanner.
