Finding and using materials

I have acquired materials randomly during travels. Is there a more targeted way to find materials required for syntheses. Was there going to be a material brokers. Also what do we do with those data files. Also should we accept materials as regard for mission even without a specific purpose?

We already have different types of material traders for some time, take a look on the galactic map with the services filter on. If you don't know what to do with the materials collected that cannot be traded for tech yet, there are several synthesis recipes or engineer upgrades to consume them. I still have several materials to max out, and don't worry about them if I can't get more.
