Finding Arsenic

I'm prepping an AspX for DWII, and am currently at Grade 4...I'm struggling to get Arsenic.

So, according to Inara, I can get Arsenic from;

Surface Prospecting: No thanks. Boooring. As far as I can tell you've got a 2:100 chance of popping arsenic at best.
Material Trader: I'll use this as a last resort, but it's so expensive!
Mining: I've mined an absolute planet-load (Pristine Metallic) and never popped Arsenic. Making plenty of money though.
Mission Rewards: Done a tonne of missions lately to rank up both Fed and Imp...never seen Arsenic as a reward.

And this is a rarity 2 material? Pah!

HAYLP!

Planetary is easiest, look for highest percentage concentration in system map detail. I've never had any problem getting all that I needed this way.

It doesn't work out as a 2 in 100 chance on the planet indicating arsenic. It is more like 1 in 10 rocks if you explore the rim of craters.

And each cargo scoop of the material gives you three in your hold ;)

So go for the SRV method on the planet surface. It's quickest in the long run.

Also, check at a material trader for the elements in the same line as arsenic, then choose a planet that has a few of those, too. That way you will at least have a surplus on tradable material.

A couple of hours of surface prosepcting will get you all the Arsenic you'll need.

If you find yourself overloaded with Iron, Nickel or other grade 1 raw materials, you may as well convert them to Arsenic, which is grade 2. Not really viable for regular trading, but what else are you going to do with 300 Iron?

Shoot everything - even the lowliest chondrite yields an arsenic occasionally. I adopt the strategy of shoot and move on if nothing found in the first shot.

But don't forget you can now trade mats upwards/downwards/sideways ... I haven't done that because I'm far from civilization, but it is a way of using the 'unwanted' materials.

Yes THIS, too.

Instead of looking for arsenic look for Pollonium and gather a few lumps. Then trade it down for arsenic... the rate is 1:9 or so AFAIR. This means every lump of pollonium you find is equivalent to 27 arsenic. Pollonium itself is only used for jumponium so you don't need it for engineering and can safely trade it in.

Good luck.

Yes, the best way - also go to planet were is Polonium and Arsenic so you can trade in Polonium for a lot of Arsenic at material trader.

On planets look for Metallic meteorite,Outcrop 2 and Mesosiderite those will contain Arsein and Polonium.
How the look on radar here:

In those examples all the radar scans are along the top, which isn't right. Maybe the sounds are right, but the visuals definitely need some work :D

Fly a few hundred KM away from Farseer's base, land and drive around shooting everything for 10-15 minutes. You'll have a load of stuff and certainly some arsenic.

Hmmm...I do have 300 Iron to be honest. I'll do that then, and when I run out, I'll suck it up and go prospecting. *Sigh*.

Surface prospecting is the fastest way I have found to get arsenic. Head to a planet with reasonable levels, and find a big crater to drive around. You'll have a decent load of arsenic within the hour.

Of course, if you really don't like surface prospecting, then good luck. I've never seen arsenic as a mission reward, and the drops when mining must be tiny as I don't remember ever seeing arsenic there either. :)
