Finding "Beggar's Canyon" - Your favourite ship & location for skimming along the surface?

I have fond memories of crashing a lot on Rogue Squadron, inspired by this I took out an Eagle down to various interesting geological formations. I've had a great time throwing it around, then landing every so often to throw my SRV off a mountain or look for places to hold a "SRV Long Jump" competition.

I've yet to find any memorable locations yet though, I figured it'd be good to bring them all together under one thread along with good ship setups.

As the title says, have you found any great locations? And what's your favourite ship in which you can be a suicidal maniac?

Not really found anywhere, but some of those supercraters that have a circular rim that rises above the planet surface a couple of hundred meters or more could provide an amusing SRV circuit.

Have you been to Ariel, yet?
12-15 km deep and narrow canyons full of mist so thick that you don't see a tip of your Eagle. Great adrenaline. :)
Also the floor is usually flat enough for some SRV fun.

INOVIK A 2 A. Small moon that's nice and centrally located. (Obligatory IMGUR album)

Tiny rocky moons tend to have some of the best rugged canyons. Vulcan has some good locations, too. I've fit out an Imperial Eagle just for planet racing. Icy moons can have some lovely jagged canyons as well. If the planetoid is too big you will find the canyons are huge, and you glide serenely down them instead of blasting along and bouncing off walls. I do the big chasms in my Orca.

There's a few places I enjoy, but my favourite so far is Sinann 2B. It's a prison colony planet, a desolate ice ball that looks as though the planet creation algorithm got drunk and scrawled all over it with the canyon tool like a toddler with a crayon:

The prison is in a pretty awesome location:

I like to imagine the prisoners looking at my ship with longing as I flaunt exclusion zones and bounce off the landscape while practicing FAOFF flying. Hooning down those canyons in an FDL or Eagle is especially insane and awesome.

Recently though, i've taken to racing friends in our SRV's. There are some really narrow ridges and even a few places where you can clear entire canyons if you get enough speed up and are brave with your boost, and the walls are steep enough that it can be really hard to get out if you fall in. The low gravity and freaking ICE EVERYWHERE can be frustrating, but it makes mistakes unfold in super unavoidable slowmo. Awesome.

heh, i did the same thing myself yesterday - my Eagle could have an SRV and fuel scoop but had no room left for cargo bays

i got the idea from visiting Merope 5C, when i was running along the canyon floors in my Anaconda, thinking surely this would be fun in a much smaller ship... now i just need to find a crusty lumpy planet closer to home

First I should say that I upgraded my planet landing "joy yacht" to an A specced Courier, something I've been wanting for a while and probably the first ship I'm going to keep & store. Shields & maneuverability, I love it.

So I went to Ariel last night & found a great canyon, but when I dived in it was ridiculously foggy. I flew for about 2 minutes then properly crashed into the floor. Fortunately the ridiculous shields on the Courier protected me and the ship ended up cartwheeling a few times before bouncing back into the sky. I definitely need some more practice!

Have to say Ariel has some awesome mountain ridges on it though, I managed to take this shot there:

Looks amazing, definitely going to find that place next. Some of those canyons look like they could be half-pipes!
