Newcomer / Intro Finding Fish

I actually found a mentor mission. He gave me a mission to retrieve fish. I got a nice mail message that went as far as showing me how to filter trade routes in the galaxy map view. I filtered the trade routes down to food and followed a blue line. Once in the system I went to a random station. Took about 10 minutes of my time to fly there. No fish.

I don't want to spend another 10 minutes flying to a random station to find again that they don't have any fish. I know there is a web page that lists all the commodities but the game is expecting me to find it in game somehow. How do I do that?

Don't just pick a "random station". You need to find the ones (or the one) that sells what you need.

"Logic" works for some commodities. Like Fish. Fish are only ever found on Agricultural planets, and every single Agricultrual planet I've ever visited has had at least some Fish for sale. So go to the System map, find the Earth-like planet in the system, check that the station orbiting that planet is "Agricultural" economy, and go to that station.

There are a few Earth-like worlds that aren't Agriculturals, and a very very few planets that are Agriculturals but aren't Earth-like (I guess those planets have large caves). But the above advice is a good rule-of-thumb.

The same goes for pretty much anything in the "Food" section of the Commodity Market, except for "Food cartridges" which come from Industrial planets and "Synthetic meat" which comes from High-tech planets.
