Newcomer / Intro Finding GOOD metal-rich mining grounds...?

So, I've watched the advanced mining video. I just tried using the Galactic Map with Paladium and Platinum selected. Exports show that NGALIBA is an exporter. I saw gas giants with rings. I tried both sets of rings, aiming for the darkest bands in both. And...I got -nada-. Just greyish rocks that act like outgassing ice when you drill them.

Where am I going wrong, here? Feels like I'm doing something wrong. All I want to do is find -decent- metal. Used the video -and- the tools available in-game, and I came up blank on both planets. I didn't bother with the belt, as the video instructs.

Ideas? I'd really like to meet some of this high-grossing ore people claim they spend an hour mining and walking away from it with a few hundred grand...

Best I've hit so far is silver. :b~~~ Oh, wait...no, I hit gold -once-.

That ring planet trick works in my usual system, but it surely didn't work where I just tried it... Not sure if it's user error or what...

Found a couple of systems that I can recommend to you. I know there is one near the start point that is ok. It is a good place to start not spend tons of time.

Well, that'd be helpful and all. And I wouldn't mind comparing notes. But it's kind of that give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish type thing. As I expand outwards, I'm likely to need to do this repeatedly. So the technique is important. How did you find your systems?

Metallic, not Metal Rich.
Metallic and Pristine Reserves are what you're looking for. There's a listing of a bunch of planetary rings HERE that are absolutely loaded.
I've managed to find Platinum in >50% fragments so it's certainly out there. Good luck!
