First thing first - wow, that's a really cool setup! You aren't messing around
And then:
No, it's just that. Internet and gaming anonymity bringing out the best, but sometimes the worst there is in people.
There are several individuals (And I'd like to stress that they are individuals among tens of thousands of players) who simply enjoy killing other commanders. just like that. No goal, no gameplay, no piracy poleplay... *shruggs* They are sitting in a system and shooting everything that can't run or doesn't shoot back.
Normally everyone just waves hand over them and goes about their business, but when such person camps a station in LHS 3447, where newbies spawn and kill them ten times in a row, it can make people sour.
I personally didn't have such experience and only met such person twice (Which is actually fewer times than I've been held at gunpoint IRL) It's not a big problem (forums, as per usual, kind of blow a bubble around it) but sometimes someone just feels a need to warn you about it. Which isn't anything bad, of course, it's good to know, especially for newbies, but anyone who has experience from games where random PvP is allowed isn't surprised. It's part of the fun.
And then:
Question - people keep warning me about other "bad" players. I suppose the question is why would they want to kill me (assuming I didn't have valuable cargo) and in a way why do I care? I've gotten killed by Naval ships before when I was too stupid to know I just had to run thanks to my little Viper Mark III. In those cases I just had to pay the insurance cost, unless I had enough credits) and was reset to my last base. I now keep enough credits on hand in case that happens but is there some ramification I'm missing?
