Finding I'm an idiot. Again.

I have never found an MJ carbon star. Does anyone have any tips for tracking down these shy creatures, any regions where they're found in abundance?


(Edited to add) Oops, I was having yet another brain failure, and of course meant CJ star, which makes the whole thread title stupid, and never mind me.

Though I would still dearly love to know where the blasted things are.

Are you sure it is MJ? I know CJ and MS exist, but MJ is something new to me. And i searched for Carbon stars a lot.

i found a couple of carbon stars in this region: Byaa Ain ER-T d4-942

there are also lots of neutron stars.

Jest aside, Carbons are a pet love of mine, always hunting them down. Never saw a MJ yet mind you.

You'll find them 1000LY above or below the galactic plane. Cannot miss them, they stand out like a boil on a bull's rear.

Well, of all procedure generated stars CJs are the rarest. I am not counting the procedure generated M I, Carbon C and some others which i was unable to find at all and assume they dont exist.
To find CJ you need a bit of luck. What i noticed is that many sectors have their own "theme". That is, type of star which is otherwise rare but is rather common in this particular sector. Sometimes it could be Yellow Supergiant (GI, FI), or Black Hole or Carbon stars, etc. So i suggest you set your starmap filter to Carbon stars only and look for a place where they are common. This is your best chance to get CJ.
Another note is that all CJs i have found were in Core area.

I found what seemed like a decent amount of Carbons (20+) in the Brairee sector, while passing through on the DW voyage. No CJ though unfortunately.

Not seen therm in abundance, but EOCH BLI IP-A d5051 and EOCH BLI YJ-I d9-1832. There's a decent scattering of Carbon stars below the ~ -1000K LY line of that sector so there are probably more around (though obviously the majority are the more common types of carbon star).
