Finding materials (Manufactured) is now an insult to those who play the game.

Simple really.

Grade 1 to 4 mats. Not an issue sometimes however there's been moments where anger fills the mind of the player.

Grade 5 mats?? Different story. It's now down right impossible. Thanks to the new signal source system you'd be lucky to even find a system with a least ONE high grade signal. Hell you'd be even luckier to get to it in time before it disappears.

Suggestion is simple really, I'd be more happier if the USS system is reverted to its previous state where high grades were actually easier and copable with to find.

They are exponentially easier to find now than in the previous system. Are you looking in the correct system states?

Believe me I've looked in systems that are high pop (supposedly increase chance) as well as in the state I require. Even superpower specific Factions like federation for core dynamic composites.

It seems pointless complaining and im sure you'll agree. I've been away from Elite from being burnt out and to find the level of difficulty in finding engineering mats taking the cake??

Pft.. Honestly.

Fly to system with state and high pop I need.

Hink system. Then scan nav beacon. Reveals all signal sources in system.

Like I said, I'd be lucky to even get ONE

What is your method for HGE?
Any HGE, don't care what's in it.:S

Okay, lets say core dynamics components
You want high pop, fedaration, war state
Preferably high tech or industrial.

Improvised components
High pop, independent or anarchy, war or civil war
Preferably agricultural.

Just a couple examples.

I normally get an average of 3 high grades per system

Yeh but a lot of people are not getting anything regardless of system state.
They really need to address the whole material system as it stinks.

Rep+1 ^This

Works for me EVERY single time...got tons. (maxed out) HIGH GRADE EMISSIONS re-populate one after another as you troll round with your eye on the left panel.... WITHOUT FAIL!!!!!!!!!
Trade for other mats as you need.

Well, I must be doing something very wrong.

HGEs repopulate. Never seen it.

I haven't gone looking for materials for months, I just carry a few limpets all the time and collect pieces of the pirates who interdict me on missions. They drop G5 mats, sometimes Core Dynamics or Imp Shielding. There are also missions offering G5 mats. I have to visit the material trader to avoid getting full of some G5s.

This is odd, I'm pretty close to maxing out manufactured materials with the new mechanic; and that's after comfortably engineering a fleet of like fifteen ships to G5.

The current gameplay flow is easy.
  • Arrive in a system
  • Hit the Nav Beacon
  • Lock onto the physical nav beacon and wait until it's done uploading the data
  • Hit supercruise
  • Filter for signal sources
  • Hunt the HGE's down / Jump system
If one knows the system is calm, one might be able to get away with just using the FSS and hunting down individual signals; that could arguably be faster then hitting the nav beacon itself.

I've occasionally found systems that have two or even three HGEs with generous timers on them. And be forced to visit the material trader to "get rid of" excess G5s so that I don't waste the loot in certain HGEs.
This is done in a fairly calm (few players in the traffic reports) cluster of stars surrounding a PowerPlay control hub that have a variety of economies and populations of 6M to 20M; and of course one agricultural system with a 3G+ pop.

Where the above likely goes wrong is when a player wants to allocate a chunk of playtime to "grind G5 mats in High Grade Emissions".
They'll need to adopt a different mindset; as you do your regular gameplay you'll need to be on the lookout for HGE's - and not make it a focus of your gameplay.

You can get HGE's anywhere.

This is an HGE, which had a timer of 35m when I jumped in SOUL SECTOR EL-Y D7.
Here, a single Asteroid Station, named "Base Camp", resides -- owned by the Soul Nebula Mining Partners corporation.
It's total population is 5000, all alone in the eerie red glow of the Soul nebula.
This site is 7500+ lightyears away from my home base, described in the previous post.
The HGE had five drops of Proto Heat Radiators in them, for a total of +15 G5 materials of that kind.

So; the gameflow mentioned in the previous post works even for when you're exploring to the edge of the galaxy and make a pit stop on the way back.

It is my experience that there are certain top tier mats are more difficult to obtain, but others are easier. I tend to spend more time at the mat trader than before. Mats are the new progression currency. Not credits.

I tried finding Improvised Components using the info above but didn't find any. I gave up after three hours. I went back to systems in Civil Unrest and within an hour I found 3 Improvised Components floating in an HGE owned by a faction in Civil Unrest. However last Friday I found 3 HGEs owned by factions in Civil Unrest but all 3 contained Core Dynamics Composites and Proprietary Composites. So it looks to me that the info given in-game and by Inara is still valid but the drop rate is very low now.
