Newcomer / Intro finding RES

So far I've gotten myself a cobra and upgraded most modules...and the money to do this I've gotten through trading. I want to take a hand at combat and see how I like it. I know everyone says find a RES and you will find combat. And RES are found by ring planets. I've traveled around for the past hours and haven't found one RES site. I've visited 10 systems or so, some of those systems have had 5 or so ringed planets. But jumping into them and flying around, near the ring planets have yet to reveal a single RES site. What am I doing wrong? I've visited a few unknown signal source and weak signal source, one or two of those were combat, the rest were federation ships.

Also, I've come across multiple (sometimes 3-4 in a system) weak or strong combat zones. I jump in, expecting to find security forces fighting an outlaw.....however all I find is security or federation ships fighting each other. I sit there and cycle through 20 ships (sometimes there are less ships) and all are clean security ships. I've even watched a few ships shoot another ship, I can the ship shooting and the ship getting shot....both are clean and federation or security ships. Why are there no wanted or bounty ships here? Why are the security ships seemingly fighting each other?

I thought finding combat would be easy, but I don't know why I can't seem to find any.

I am currently in LP 102-320

I have a KWS, basic discovery scanner, and 3A sensors.

Systems with rings usually have RES sites. Not always though. They show up under Navigation. Don't hit an allied ship by accident unless you want to play Grand Theft Auto in Space.

In combat zones you need to go to Functions (hit 4) and choose a side and dive in. Intuitive, I know. Don't be in the middle of the enemy when you choose sides, and don't fire on a ship before choosing a side. The pay is low and the risk is real, so I prefer RES for dopey slow cash cows to bring down.

Finding RES I recomend try filtering the systems called exstraction and then look if those have a ring planet with a RES or two attached to it....

reguarding conflict zone you need to choose a side to fight on in order to get paid for you kills. Because in conflict zones there are No wanted people just like in anarchy systems...
as mentioned in the above post CZ pays less per ship than a ReS does, however there are a lot more target to choose from to kill. And if the CZ is part of a community goal operation you can get an additional bonus on top of what you got paid for you combat bonds when you turn those in at the station...
yesteday I got a small bonus of 10 mio credits for like 4-5 hours combat not bad in my point of view :)

On your Galaxy map look for Extraction system's they will have RES site's also if your doing the CG system NLTT 8653 which is imp and only about 10lyrs from the CG has 7+ res sites very close to the star

Ok here is a hint. RES don't entirly appear at planets with astroid rings. There are two other conditions.

1 Condition: usally a station that circles around the ring planet.
2 Condition:The system is marked as Extraction & has stations nearby the ringed planets or as Condition 1 stated directly at the planet.

Means you have to look for stations + ringed planets.

It mostly will make RES appear. I always found one, when I looked for that top Conditions.

thanks for the tip. unfortunately I am about 180Ly away from there.

According to the link provided above, the CG is located in one system. Will it always be this system? Or does it vary? I don't want to make the long trek, only to have the CG next week be somewhere 200Ly away again.

the CG is imp space wide as far as i understand as i've handed stuff in from diff systems so far without problems earlier this evening also NLTT 8653 is only about 10-12lyrs from the mission pick up

May I recommend the Smethells 56 system? It boasts a ring-planet with 3 RES locations and there is an orbiting station that is Federation/Independent-aligned named Moisuc Dock.
It is also neighbors with a system that is Imperial-aligned and currently a war-zone system. Not too heavily traversed but not too quiet either.

Mind you it is approx. 300kls from the main star, but worth the proximity of the two.

I have also recently found that some RES sites are low activity while others are high. I went to one in another system on my way through and my Scanner was just full of ships its was amazing. Just had to be careful not to hit clean ships
