Finding The Alien Stuff

I'm flying out to Maia to collect some Meta Alloys from the market there. I need it to unlock the Engineers.

Does anyone know good systems (maybe it's just one system?) to find the alien artefact stuff, or even try to pick up a Meta Alloy direct from a surface scavenge?

I know a lot has been written about this stuff onn the forum, but I don't really have time to trawl a long set of threads. I'm usually a BGS'er and trader, so this is a 'big' trip for me to Maia and I wanted to also use it to catch some other sights while I'm out there. But the galaxy is a big place and I could be wandering around systems trying to randomly find stuff when the answer might be "just visit System [xxx], third planet/moon from the star".

I wanted alien ruins. I looked up the map, found the nearest active site, and popped on over. Was at promised coordinates, got alien stuffs. Tells you EXACTLY what planet, and lat/lon.

Meta alloy comes from barnacle sites (check wiki for locations) and active (inactive? idk.) alien sites. Check for spikes. Alien drones drop various things, and UP apparently opens the doors, but it will also rot your ship/SRV from the inside out without a CR rack. You can scan various things as well, and thru walls sometimes.

UA comes from crashed alien ships and in space, and UP are harder to get.

I just know that decoding messages from ingame is a bit more in-depth than I want to get. :p

Thank you. Very useful. I did find the radio transmissions near Lave, but didn't mean much and figured it's too long to figure it all out. I just thought I was making the trip out to Maia to buy some Meta Alloys I'd see what I could find. I've dropped in on a couple of random moons on the way, but nothing out of the ordinary. I guess you have to be 'up' for spending a lot of time exploring for this stuff, whereas like I said I'm mostly into trading and missions and BGS play.

Many thanks. I've now visited my first Alien site at HIP 17044 planet 1B (from the Canonn map site). I was getting nearer to Maia (about four or five jumps) but saw this was close by so diverted there.

Fascinating looking structure. Like a spiral galaxy when looked at from above. I landed near the middle and quickly found some organic structures, scavengers, and a data uplink. Scanning the structures and then shooting some gave me four tons of Meta Alloys, so mission accomplished. I left the scavengers alone, and scanned the uplink.

I might be back :)
