Finding Your Discovered Astral Bodies

Hello Explorers,
I was wondering if there was a way to find your discovered bodies anywhere ingame or out? I found some systems as I was traveling that had a couple planets in far out orbits that didn't have names on them in the map. The star (Doris) and several of the inner planets were tagged. I made the trip and scanned them, then ran 20ly and sold the data, when I checked there is still no name on the planets.

Is there any specific things that need to be done when tagging? And once tagged, how do Explorers see the trail of their adventures with their tagged planets?

Short answer, you don't.

If you've not kept your own log (with pen and paper or one of the existing 3rd party tools) you'll pretty much never find them.

Hopefully this may change in the future - when FDev release the API access to their database if not before.

Yep, the only way is logging every system you visit. I do it with pen and paper, usually during either supercruise, or hyperspace so it doesnt actually add any time.

It would be nice to have a search on discovered by in the galaxy map, but I think FD will be too busy to think about that for a while.

Some kind of API is probably one of the long-distance goals, but yeah... not in the foreseeable future :)

Was the API not an ongoing thing that's not too far away? I'm sure FDev were on the forums a while back looking for people to contribute to a conversation about what they should expose...

OP, your name should have been tagged to those planets you mention you scanned and had no previous name before. However, it's been reported some bugs with recording the tag label. Give it a couple of days see if it shows up , and if not, go at it again.

You knew these bodies because you wrote it down or something and thats how you checked back to verify your tag. Well, that's pretty much the only way that exist for us right now. There is no library or data bank that can be accessed telling you what kind of body or where did you scanned it.

You need a log, manual or electronic in the computer., to be able to come back to a discovered planet or star.

Since this is a system in colonised space, the most likely bug (assuming that it is a bug) is that it was first discovered some time ago and the CMDR who did so doesn't have his/her named displayed. When that happens they appear as undiscovered but no one can get their name on them.

Thanks for the tips CMDRs! I've not started a long journey yet, just got an asp and have been roaming and prospecting in the bubble (I read the explorer terms guide to get the lingo down). I've come across multiple systems around Alioth with no names. There is even a lot to grab in human space!

I've got a notebook ready to record my wandering. I actually like the idea of a good old fashioned captains log.

OOhhh...makes sense...didn't think of it...

OP, this might be the reason. Try in deep space, uncivilized system, say some 300ly away and see how it goes....plus enjoy the extra credits!

Also, and this is important, when you sell, if you are the first discoverer, a congratulation message opens up and lists all the bodies you are claiming first discovery...if this didn't occur, most likely you were not the 1st...and that system was lying to you about its promiscous past and adventures...:p
