Fire group observation/question

I have a Python I've been using for CZ's and after running 4 beams (fixed) up top and a cannon on bottom, I decided to swap the 2 top medium beams for those guardian plasma launchers (fixed). I didn't even think about fire groups until in the CZ and deployed. Was going to fiddle with things, then thought to just try it as is.

Open up with 2 large fix beams, they are on target and the plasma launchers are charged max so release trigger and repeat. Close range and/or large targets it worked great, otherwise shot speed makes it suboptimal.

Move the chargers to fire group with my bottom large fixed cannon. Fire cannon and keep trigger held, adjust target for top 2 plasma chargers and release. Probably half the time I released the trigger to fire charged plasma before the cannon was firing again.

Haven't tried it yet, bit I'm thinking this would best be utilized with fixed beams and 2 rail guns (all on top). Beams fire, you know you are on target, release trigger for positive rail hits.

So I'm curious for those who run things in a similar fashion what drawbacks you may see and other ships with hardpoints that work well this way.

I typically run my secondary group fire (RMB) as my main source of DPS, which is usually (but not limited to) Laser weaponry.

My CZ Corvette for example, my Primary Fire Group Primary Weapon [RMB] I'll have a single LR Beam (w/turreted LR Burst) as constant fire (when on target), with the Secondary [LMB] Efficient Beam/Corrosive for closer range and to double up on the Shield Barrage/tear at the Hull.
My Secondary Fire Group is the same Primary Weapon, with Rails as the Secondary, so I can keep up constant Shield barrages with the Rails as well as hit them when using SCBs.
Tertiary is LR Laser weaponry with a Packhound Missile Rack.

My Python is a similar setup.
LR Large Beam for constant Primary fire [RMB], with Rails as Secondary.
Then when Shields are down, it's the Beam on Primary still with two Large MC's on Secondary.

There are two reasons for my doing so;

Firstly I'm mainly an FPS gamer, so LMB is obviously my weapon/tank/aircraft fire, they're usually burst, rapid tapping or steadily timed shots. Hence the Fire Group that's used similarly.
RMB being ADS, so it's held down (when pressed) for longer periods in typical Medium/Long range engagements.

My second reason, being that I have my Fire Grouping up/down set to Scroll Wheel Tilt left/right (same as weapons selection in FPS games), so my Fire Groupings are very easily accessible, and it just feels natural for my play style and in my brain, it all makes logical sense. I can flick up/down Fire Groups without it affecting my main source of Damage.

Thanks for your input, and that does seem an intuitive way to do things. I guess all I'm really doing is trying to find a work around a second fire group, maybe I should just get used to using one.
