Fire Groups

Hi Guys just bought a Kill Warrant Scanner, Fire Group 1st Row, Joystick button (1) I have my Beam Lasers x2........... Joystick button (2) I have Multi Cannons x4.........
Fire groups, I notice there can be many, if I make my K Scanner, Fire Group 2nd Row, can I use Joystick button (3) and how do I access fire group 2 in the fray of battle so to speak.
It seems to me my joystick options are button 1, and button 2 on my joystick, however it is very possible I have got it wrong.
Can someone put me right.
Many Thanx

You can only ever have primary and secondary triggers, but you can change what's assigned to those triggers in each fire group. "N" is the default key to cycle between groups.

Bind a key to "Cycle Next Fire Group" in the controls menu under "Weapons"
I use "0" on the Numpad to switch between weapon groups.

Since the KWS consumes a lot of power when deployed I don't use it in the same fire group as my weapons. Firegroup one has large hardpoints (1) and small hardpoints (2). Firegroup two has KWS (2) and Interdictor (1).

Chaff is set to Mouse 5 in the controls menu under "Use Chaff Launcher"
SCB is set to Mouse 3 in the controls menu under "Use Shield Cell"

I don't see an option to bind a key to "Use KWS Scanner"

I was actually hoping for a Button 3 to be added under firegroups at a later date. That way we could use it to toggle turret weapons on and off.

Apparently it's too difficult to display more than two fire buttons in the HUD and also it wouldn't be fair on people playing with 20 year old Intellimice so they can't let us use the myriad of buttons we have on modern devices.

Tip on this that I just found out the other day: You can bind multiple non-weapon scanners and the like to the same fire button, and the correct one will fire depending on the context.

For example, I have two fire groups: Heavy combat, with beams on 1, and cannons on 2, and light combat / scanning, with beams on 1, and Interdictor, Warrant Scanner, and Wake Scanner on 2.

In my light combat group, if I am in supercruise and have a ship targeted, Fire 2 interdicts it. In normal space, it scans warrants, and if I have a wake targeted, it scans that. It never tries to fire off the wrong scanner, or run multiple actions at the same time. Works like a charm, and saves from toggling through multiple fire groups. :)

Cool tip!

I have one fire group for weapons, then one each for discovery, wake, cargo and KWS. In the heat of battle I'm always getting muddled and having to thumb through them. I'll have to try this.

If this is truth, then best tip ever! Can't wait to try it.

nice tip. Might be useful, especially for X-box users.
I'm sticking with shield cells and chaff etc. all on different keyboard keys, but everyone has things set for themselves.

Any official reason why there is not any 3rd (or 4th, 5th...) fire group?

As far as I remember, the official reason was to keep the game controller-agnostic, so KB/M or console controller users aren't at a disadvantage.
Actually I think that's reasonable (using a Warthog myself).

Thanx guys, for clarifying............ and many thanx for the tip, I will use that, think I will make button 3 joystick for switching between fire-groups.........
:)
When I have got you here, I'm using a T-flight Hotas X, the left accelerator is good the thruster left/right up/down are very natural, however I would love to use the hat thing on the joystick to look around, it just feels better,
right now though I use it for "systems" "engines" "weapons" and it's perfect for that, in the fray it's natural to have this at your thumb, pity
when I look left I get a screen, when I look right again a screen, they sometimes get in the way, is there anything I can do to stop them opening until needed ?
I have an ASP the cockpit is glass-stuff it would be far better if I could see left and right without those screens.
Other than that, I have discovered the glorious adrenalin pumping, screaming Nav Beacons, guys if you haven't tried this go...............
