In 1905 the Deveraux Mining Institute began construction on there newest achievement, Set to be the jewel in the crown , a masterpiece of mining engineering..
During construction and excavation into the Sanderson Hills Mines workmen started complaining of dizzy spells, headaches and sickness.
When the site doctor examined them no direct illness could be found. No flu symptoms ..nothing.. Charles Deveraux began to question why the Sanderson Hills were sold so cheap.
But alas he carried on his work, 2 years later the shaft tower was nearing completion but so was the project deadline..It was 3 days before that the first disaster struck.
The north mines were nearly complete all that was needed was one final tunnel connecting the shaft tower,All was going routine , the explosives were being lowered into place when all of a sudden
a powder keg ignited! The ground shook as a mighty explosion hit the base of the shaft tower, crippling its structure!
The tower swayed for a few seconds and then went silent...Charles began to panic.. the mine was due for opening in three days and time was against him..
That night Charles set to work a second team , closer to him and his family ..they had one mission , To patch up the worst of the damage .
Charles Deverauxs team worked through the nights out of sight of prying eyes and in three days time dissapeared like they were never there..
Opening day came and so did the crowds as a nervous Charles Deveraux watched on as the mine cart ascended up the shaft lift, For he knew that the towers maintenance was fatefully only cosmetic, Who new the true damage the blast had caused if any at all... Charles was a man of reputation and distinction and was hardly going to let the project fail so close to his deadline...little did he know the full scale damage beneath the surface .. The cart by now had reached the summit of the shaft tower and was about to prepare for descent..it was then that disaster would strike again...
The mines were sold cheap because of the underground gases and these gases were were now spilling out into the mines below, unbeknown to the crowds above and miners sat at the summit of the shaft tower..The cart began to slowly tip over the edge in preparation for the descent..then it happened.. the gears jammed halting the cart over the edge and in some fearful twist of fate the gases in the north mines ignited sending flurries of flame racing upto the shaft tower! The gears atop the tower were screeching as steam poured from the machinery! Something was drastically wrong! The fires erupted up to the shaft tower catching an excavated powder key believed to be dead, an almighty explosion of fire and smoke filled the air as the tower shook and the gears gave way... the crescendo to this nightmare ..the cart released from the mechanisms and came crashing down at full speed into the mines below, the air was filled with with a cacophony of screams and crunching metal....then silence.... From this day on the area was known as The FireMine...
Onto present day, the gases now stemmed away from the site through a network of pipes and release valves, surely fate wouldnt repeat history again... would it?
Dare you follow in the footsteps of the 1907 disaster and enter the FireMine once and for all.... its said that these hills hold many precious stones and crystals which to this day sit unearthed and unmined... riches and glory could be yours... but remember... Pride comes after a fall....
Good Luck
