Firest Impressions and a Couple Suggestions

Hi folks, I've had Elite for a few days now and I absolutely love it. I've been playing it pretty much non-stop. I couldn’t have written down what I'd like to see in a space game on a piece of paper and ended up with something more to my liking. I'm a Freelance player from waaaay back and I still have a copy of that game on my computer running with the Rebalance mod 3.56. Perhaps some of you know the mod I'm talking about. Mod's were the thing that kept Freelancer going so long for so many people. I always played that game as a trader and explorer, so ED is definitely right up my alley :) For my style of play, ED is like Freelancer on uber-steroids. The graphics and flight mechanics are superb and pretty much bug free for me. I also love the fact there are so incredibly many places to travel to and explore. They've put in such a wide variety of stations types, going to new stations never gets boring and, of course, with 400 billion different stars systems, exploring is guaranteed to never get old.

If I could add only two features to the game, it would be to have more models of ships and parts upgrades available for purchase. I've read elsewhere that around 30 ships are planned to eventually be in the game, but I was thinking more along the lines of 50-100 (I've been kinda spoiled by the enormous selection in Rebalance) Second, I'd make the huge number of factions more of a factor in the game play. Make joining or dealing with local system factions have a greater impact on what happens in the game. For example, in Freelancer you have a reputation with each company or political faction and this dynamically affected how many friends or foes you had. While ED appears to have many local factions and you have a reputation with each of them, this feature is not very prominent in the game and currently has little impact on game play (at least from what I've experienced so far) ED should perhaps have many more major political factions and more active and dynamic local factions in the star systems you visit.

All in all I'd like to give a huge congrats to Frontier for doing such a wonderful job so far and I'm looking forward to see what they have in store for the future of ED.
