First attempt at Sgr A* .. turning back

I am 800 LY from Sagittarius A right now, but I am unable to plot any route... when I try, the galaxy map goes to 1 frame per 5 or 6 seconds and totally hangs, even when I plot a route for just 2 jumps. I can't go forward, I can't go back... very VERY frustrating when you're almost there :/ (It's just the sheer amount of stars in that region I bet, it became gradually harder to plot on my way in, but now it's impossible to plot anything) Guess I'll have to make my way one jump at a time...

This concerns me a little as I noticed when zoomed all in the core area the map's framerate is that of a very slow PowerPoint presentation. I don't exactly fancy travelling 800LY one jump at a time, that's way too far for such a pain.

Anybody else having this issue?

You can deselect both route boxes so that the spiders-web of routes isn't drawn. You can still plot a route and it'll use the last option you had selected (economical/fastest).

Bloody handy when the stars get denser and denser.

Still just as slow, though.

I wanted to be doing one jump at a time on the way in - I was exploring, so no biggie there. On the way back, I was in travelling mode. I could just about tolerate the delay in route finding up to about 150 LY, but any more than that was unusable. I eventually got to the point where I was going to go and do something else for a while, so I parked and let it get on with plotting a 1000 LY route. That worked.

An 18 wheeler full of reputation for you Ulysses_W. That seems to do the trick. I was able to plot the 800+ LY in just about 12 minutes, last night I waited in vain for over half an hour... Sagittarius A, here I come :)

-EDIT- I did it :) Just took a bunch of screenshots, not sure whether I'll head (more or less) straight back, or continue my exploration...

It's really annoying. I raised a ticket for it.

Just plot to a star next to Sag A*. That's near instant (~5-10s at most) but Sag A* for some reason takes ages. It's the reason I made it with 39% hull and a cracked canopy rather than ~79% I had at 800LY to go...

Then once you're there it's a single jump and enjoy the view!

EDIT: Just realised I was too late, you've already made it. Oh well, of use to the next person to try!

I tried that, but it didn't make a difference... the first plot on my way back took ages aswell. I'll get there though... I made it there, so I will make it back aswell :) I'm at 94% hull (only took damage because some stupid NPC pirate interdicted me into a star just after I left "home"... had 2 close calls with binary pairs though.

Currently 7.4K from Sol, about 700ly before NGC 6357. I'll give that one a miss, I have no doubt it's full of discovered by tags already as it's the one that's always visible on the galaxy map. Still a long way to go.

Back last night from a trip 'down south' (aka the near edge out past the Jellyfish Nebula ~16kLy round trip, 18 days away from humanity). Next step some outfitting improvements to get closer to the 34Ly range on the Asp and then I'm making my run for Sag A*.

i haven't been yet, but i've yet to run into any real problems exploring in my cobra.

i imagine that you'd have more trouble out on the galactic rim. as you approach the center of the galaxy the stars SHOULD be grouped closer and closer together.

Is it possible to do the full exploration in a fully fitted cobra? Current jump range 20 ly

Yes. I'm in one. ~22LY range. I made it and I'm on my way back, about 22kLY to go.

My advice is to get the biggest baddest fuel scoop you can (I really wish I'd got better than an 2A) and a heat sink launcher, if you are unlucky you will end up in a binary and a heat sink launcher could make all the difference.

I gotta admit i started my journey in an ASP a bit under prepared. Fuel scoop takes only 176/s and I have no repair kits or heat sinks.

I have mistakes as well ( like scooping close to a binary star) but I learn from them. They left me at 65% hull when I finally arrived at Sagittarius A few days ago.

I am now returning home after visiting the north pole. I have seen incredible stuff, like tons of neutron stars, black holes and more water world and earth likes than I can count, and there is still more to come before I get back. I am tempted to rush as you guys really scared me with the coming update 1.2

And I really want to get a community goal. You think there will be another one for exploration ?

If anyone is interested in my adventures, I stream every day on twitch

Just landed safely on the Anderson Platform in the Yakaldukpe system. I was the only player to enter it during the last 24h apparently. :) I rushed home after scanning the cluster of blue stars and black holes.. (partly because I bungled my approach against a Neutron Star, ended up with a crack in the canopy from that.. and partly because I'll be away from home for a few days, unable to play, and I wanted to get my First Discovered tags now! :) )

And get First Discovered tags I did... lots of them! :) ...also, the repairs amounted to 120k credits, and my data was sold for 3.6M credits, so a nice profit there! :)
