First boring 24 Hours

Well guys, I'm trying to be positive but the first 24 hours are both a grind and boring? Really not what I had hoped. Can't help but think most new players will be lost to other games in the first few days of play?

Too many interdictions, no cheap alternative ship to the Sidewinder for haulage and markets totally uninspiring?? I am sure it gets better, but right now I am looking for excuses to go and do some real work. Perhaps its just me?

No, it's just not you. I get that "I have to find a reason to start the game"-kind of vibe each time now...more often than not, I dont find one. I had that feeling after a week of playing Titanfall too.

Hopefully they'll add some actual gameplay content and multiplayer features soon...

Hauler - pretty cheap (only 50k, when you sidey is 30k), if you do some haulage runs (for 3-5k) you will earn 50k pretty fast. Maybe not that fast, but definitely under 24h. Sale everything you can from hauler and put some extra cargo modules.

Also, try combat. Even on starting sidewinder I can shoot vipers and cobras (5-15k bounty per kill), but you have to be pretty tricky and skilled for them. But you should handler another sideys, eagles and so on.

Maybe try luck in exploration. Buy some fuel scoop and go for unknown.

The Zorgon Peterson Hauler is what most people use to start hauling, think it is only 52,720 credits.

Yep got one finally after grinding in the sidewinder for a few hours. No faction I've found yet 'trusts' me enough to let me haul much of anything in it though, and I've searched about a dozen bases in three systems now so far and can't find an upgrade for the cargo modules.. Yes boring, and tedious would be the words that come to mind most often when I play now.

I don't mean to offend you but you just need to change your mindset and the attitude you come at the game with. "Grind" also tells me you are approaching the game wrong.

I've been playing since alpha which is many months now and I see no grind, there is no rush to the best ship or the most money. I play many hours with few credits and a sidewinder or just a basic cobra and it's fun. I see no grind here at all.

If the prospect of sailing far and wide through a fabulously simulated cosmos and piloting various spaceships does not enthrall you from the outset, it's possible that you are more a gamer than a space-sim enthusiast (which is no crime) and you may never find Elite enjoyable. To each his own.

Just give people more customization options for the starter ship. Have some amount of CR only for a starter ship and let people choose their way. If player wants to trade let him buy a basic hauler, wants to fight a basic eagle, wants allrounder a mid SW.
A simple buying screen at the start solves choice of a ship and equipment to begin with. That can be interesting by it self, like buying your first car.

nope it wont get better, this is the game... if you dont like exactly this, im sorry but i think this game is just not for you. there wont be a story arc etc. its just what you make yourself out of it and that is right from the beginning.

If you know what you're doing then you can get from a sidey into a cobra quickly enough. If you're new to the game then there is the learning curve to deal with as well - there is a lot to learn and the early backers have had a few months of being drip-fed features so it's easy for them (inc me) to be glib.

My advice:
- The tutorials are important. You don't need to be able to complete the last one, but make sure you can travel, dock, balance your speed and turn rate, manoeuvre in combat using thrusters and balance your power distribution in moment-to-moment combat.
- Start out by completing courier missions for cash. Top this up with some bounty hunting by boiling 'wanted' ships - from being interdicted, and from nav markers.
- Don't fill your hold with something you don't know how to sell - even if it looks cheap. Anywhere will buy food, but more specialist items aren't demanded everywhere. Scout the local systems, take some time to work out a decent milk run.
- Giving you a bigger starting ship wouldn't make this easier, but it would take away the sense of accomplishment when you get to drive that Cobra for the first time - believe me, THAT is something to cherish. I backed the KS to a level where I can start in one, but during the betas I've done the sidey>cobra upgrade a few times and it's always such a good moment.

Well i can't understand the "boring" and the "too many interdictions" as interdictions usually aren't boring for me (being attacker or defender).

For the grind i think most people do it wrong. You came in game to:
-->discover/explore the galaxy, most people dont rly look a the star system or the system map
-->master your pilot skills by killing ships, bounty hunt or pirate, cargo scooping and mining
-->master the economy by knowing your system economy and the side systems
-->master every Elite ranks in 3 different ways

The problem is most people come in game, see in credit line and think "hey that's the end game! I need to grind credits" then they grind, grind, grind and finally come to the forum saying that grinding is boring.
That's the same problem that peapole who kill a fed fighter and claim that is a good pilot, or someone who got a 200cr bounty and pretend to be a bounty hunter, or doind 10 trades run for a small 2000cr benefit and say that he know all trading routes.

When you get in game ignore the credit line apart for insurrance of your ship, go discover, learn the system you're in, read the informations about stations, outpost, look at the astronomical data, that's what is the essence of the game. If you dont do that then yes you're going to hit a big wall head first because the game has no "endgame" and earning credit don't make you the best pilot ever or the one who know all secrets of the universe.....

I noticed the space truckers seem to attract most interdictions ... maybe you get extra pirates after you for flying cargo missions? :)

I was flying around with eagle kitted for travel and kitted out for fighting and barely had any interdictions(except from some opportunistic CMDR who apparently only interdicted me to get scan ...).

Ok there are 2 aspects to this.
The first is, without a clear purpose many simply see this as a rush to upgrade paths and Elite status. Many don't see or understand the journey. That is a modern day gamer mindset and its tricky to overcome. There is no hand holding, no plot and no PvP arena combat.

But, what there is is an evolving galaxy and here my second point...

Watch this space. Seriously... Lol... It has been stated that the injections of Intruige and evolution begin on the 16th December onwards. No, I don't expect a massive shift in gameplay mechanics etc... But I would view these 2 weeks or so as a chance to familiarise yourself with the game. From the 16th onwards I think we will start to see the story, the evolution and our galaxy will change around that.

We will be able to make decisions, get involved, avoid, manipulate, profit. But still, the game you have before you will still be there, just there will be a galactic purpose to it. Up to you then what you make of it and that I feel is the concept many might struggle to grasp.

Personally I would like to see Waypoints and Wings as key releases close to the 16th to help things out.

Sounds great to me. Used to enjoy the quiet time in the original I very rarely used the time hop to next contact. Part of the charm of the original was trading back and forth.

Great thing is with this newer version I’d enjoy just sightseeing alone it looks so amazing. When the Game really starts trading is a whole new ball game I take it online. Games today with instant gratification and success with little to no work or skill just don’t cut it for me. I hope Elite stands up to the original in that it takes time to master and appreciate.

If people are bored within the first 24 hours then they are doing something very.. very... wrong. Even an interdiction gives off the chance of a fight and free cargo if dropped. To unleash and dogfight and get the adrenaline running. Can't help asking, are you a corpse? If so, get in my cargo hold.

Shok.

I think there will be always people who will feel it as a grind and I think elite won't make everyone happy so there will be some disappointed customer buying ED (without any clue what is this game about) with "extreme" high expectation and leave. I think elite won't be "everyone's cup of coffee" and thats fine so the next updates will be made/tailored for the rest who like it as it is. I wouldn't like it to be made for the "mass market".
