First boring 24 Hours

the fundamental elements that make a game multiplayer, much less MMO, are still missing.

multiplayer games, by DEFINITION include some fundamental elements, none of which, aside from the broken comms system, are included in this game.

Bit confused by this post, whenever i play Elite i play in a team with my gaming friends, if someone gets interdicted i follow their wake and help out, we travel the galaxy together and share our experiences and if we bump into a larger NPC ship like an anaconda we team up to kill it.

I used to use ts3 in Elite but after using the comms system in game have stopped using ts3 as i found the in game comms added immersion and i prefer its sound.

I really hope by "fundamental elements" you do not mean a chat system as this would not fit the game at all imo and would just be like all other in game chat systems, full of trolls, immersion breaking random waffle and arguments.

Having the option to take a mission as a group would not be a good thing either imo, if i want to take some friends along with me to say help with a particularly difficult bounty hunt then i just ask them to come along..no need for any other mechanic to hold my hand and explain i may need allies.

I'd be interested to know what you require to make this game more of a multi player experience?

The galaxy is huge so unless you actively meet up with friends you'll not be bumping into many players...

This does not mean that player organised events such as the recent betapocalypse were not large multi player battles very much like any MMO i have played in the past. With the release we have been informed various events will take place that players will flock to and that will bring with it the type of multiplayer experience that you are referring to i assume.

Just because Elite imo thankfully does not conform to the stale vision of current MMO's grouping methods does not mean it is not multiplayer.

I don't worry too much about the lack of content. The game is very early in it's lifespan. Patience seems to be a lost virtue these days but I do understand that patience isn't much fun for most people who require instant gratification. I'm much more interested in seeing FD create a solid and amazing foundation to build on. For the most part, I think they've done that. I have a few quibbles with some of their design choices but I accept that I'm not the only one with a point of view and preferences vary. Overall, I think they've created an awe inspiring sandbox that needs to be filled with sand. I'm rather enjoying watching the ongoing development and progression...even when I'm not playing.

I don't understand why this concept is so hard to understand except again, I think this is coming from older gamers who legitimately don't understand the difference from this game to another multiplayer game.

One huge, gaping hole in this game that there is NOTHING tying a team together: there's no system in-game to help you jump together, there's no group objectives, no group missions, no way to start your own faction, company, city, whatever.

There's nothing to support it except pretending that's what you're doing.

As far as taking a bounty together why NOT allow people to do a bounty as a group? Sure, ask for help on your solo bounties like you already do, but there's no OPTION for grouping, and no REASON to do so. There's no motivation - like splitting the credits.

There's nothing to SUPPORT meeting up with friends. Why do I have to even explain this? I can't just jump in with a group of friends in the same spot. It doesn't work like that. We can't do anything for the *benefit* of the group. We can't create our own clan/faction/team of any kind.

Just a FEW fundamental elements hold this game away from being a multiplayer experience and leave it being a solo game, barely more than a simulator. There's no meat, there's no true objective, there's no storyline (unless you want to read text all day long rather than PARTICIPATING in a story), there's nothing group or team-oriented. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE what is already here - but as a multiplayer game, it's seriously lacking the support systems to enable team and group play. It doesn't have to be an MMO cookie-cutter; but it needs a lot more to work as it's "own" style MMO.

Last, the idea of chat system breaking the game... you clearly haven't played another MMO for a LONG time. You have a LOT of control over who and what you pay attention to in a standard chat system.

What would make more sense to me, though, and more realistic for ED, would be voice chat where I can select from my nearby contacts who I want to speak with, and/or initiate the chat with a voice command - for example, "computer, request docking", "computer, contact system security" , "computer, please contact Commander Whatever".

Ah yes - factions that's what this is about - there are a lot of ED should be EVE disgruntled members that couldn't get the DD changed. I for one are glad they didn't.

DD? No idea what that even means.

I don't and have never played EVE short of a couple hours trying it out for free, then promptly uninstalling. I don't want the game to be EVE.

What is it with you guys and this "love it how it is or go play some other game"? Like just because someone feels strongly about a feature (shall we go back in the Forum archives and see how many of the original posts were about this very subject - adding features?) or wants some standard communication features, or maybe a TEAM affiliation, it's going to break your whole little gem into becoming EVE.

Great - you're just fine with a stripped-down game that is basically a sim only with no additional features. I'm glad for you, and there's nothing stopping you from continuing to play it as such even IF these features were added.

Video games have come a long way since the 80's but one thing remains the same: you need a reason to play, motivation, challenge and reward. I'm happy for you needing little to no context under which to play other than, "yay, I'm in space!" but that isn't the point of this discussion, is it now?

The point of this discussion is that people looking for more than a space-based flight simulator have little to keep them interested and the fact remains that crowd (who is satisfied with just a sim) is very small. There's no reason you can't have that AND a decent MP game, too, but there seems to be this hard-headedness from "veterans" that if features that allow people to have some incentive for playing in a group were added it would somehow destroy the game.

That's a myth.

Why is it such a big deal that a game that "can be played however you want to play it" can't have features that are DIFFERENT FROM HOW YOU WANT TO PLAY IT? Maybe that's how *I* want to play it, and that's okay too.

At the end of the day, you're angle is basically putting your foot down and demanding your way or the highway, where ours is have your way, and let us have ours too. There seems to be a strong level of ignorance and stubborness borne out of a separate ignorance of what makes a GAME a GAME and what makes MULTIPLAYER, well, MULTI-.

pretending? have you not seen this?! multiplayer has been working since 2012

I suspect the game to look slightly better than this video and play like it in 2 weeks time

though I do wonder why a convoy of anacondas would not just frameshift to the front door of a station, but yea convoys!!!
escorts, contracts, hiring other players, omg!

Well guys, I'm trying to be positive but the first 24 hours are both a grind and boring? Really not what I had hoped. Can't help but think most new players will be lost to other games in the first few days of play?

Too many interdictions, no cheap alternative ship to the Sidewinder for haulage and markets totally uninspiring?? I am sure it gets better, but right now I am looking for excuses to go and do some real work. Perhaps its just me?

You know , you are exactly right...

You should petition then to have a Magic Unicorn with a ! over its head to come aboard you ship as soon as you dock. It can then proceed to pat you on the back while reminding you that you are a special snowflake, and as a bonus, it will poop you a new shiney for your ship just because you managed to fly from point A to B without slamming into the side of a planet.....

SirGirard, if you haven't gotten the point already, you are the poster child of why gaming is so screwed up. If it's "too hard" it's not the games fault, it YOUR fault.
