First combat in a Type 7 Transporter

Thought I would share my experience of what happened just now.

The moment I had been dreading since I started flying a Type 7 arrived - interdicted by a pirate and I failed to evade the interdiction. I was alarmed to see that the pirate was not an eagle or a sidewinder, but a Cobra Mk III!

As the Type 7 has the maneuverability of a brick, I had deliberately opted for weapons that would do the work for me. A gimballed beam laser and seeker missile battery on the front, and turreted beams on the top and bottom. This strategy paid off. I had the turrets set to 'fire at will', but did not deploy the hardpoints until he actually fired on me. The last thing I wanted was to fire on one of those 'clean' pirates who demand your cargo, leading you to fire on them and get a bounty on your head.

Anyway, he made the mistake of getting in front of me several times, at which point the seeker missiles were pretty devastating. When he was behind me, it was a struggle to get behind him, but do-able with all pips to the engines. Any time he did get behind or to the side, he got a good roasting from the turreted lasers. He got a few shots on me, but (from memory) I have a class A shield generator and it did not even get degraded below full charge.

It was soon all over and I got a 12,000 Cr bounty. Which, after damage from the interdiction and reloading the missiles, left me about 2000 Cr in profit! Not a bad result. :)

Thought I would share this for others wondering how the T7 stands up in a fight.

Awesome :) Seeker missiles and Torps have got me out of trouble in the my Type-9 against npc's and cmdr's. Definitely the weapon of choice for large freighters.
 
Type 7 is the next logical step for me, since I mostly trade. I've been at a loss as to how to best equip it; this will help. Thanks!
