Newcomer / Intro First day and can't get to Contacts Tab

Just got the game and have learnt quite a bit but I cannot get to the Contacts Tab. I can move up and down in the Navigation Tab only. Contollers are Saitek X 55 using default settings.

You may need to check X55 control set up hasn't missed a binding ..

In default keyboard scheme keys Q and E get you between tabs. You can check if this is working by looking at the right panel, cam you move between tabs on that side? (this uses same hotkeys)

If you can tab on right panel but not on left, you found a bug. If you can't tab on either, side look in settings/ controls for menu navigation settings .. I'll see if I can get you a more accurate description.

The bindings are OK. Just can't get to the top Tabs. Thanks for the help

You can't "get" to the top Tabs. Keys for switching tabs are different from the ones used for moving inside the tab.
If you use the default X55 bindings, I think (but I'm not sure I remember correctly how the bindings look like on default) that you move the cursor in the tabs by one POV hat and switch tabs by the second POV hat, left and right.

Something you might want to try (although some people will say the drivers are of a quality less than optimal) is to fire up the Saitek/Mad Catz joystick control panel. I have an X52, and if I don't have the control panel open in the background the pinkie button does not work (and so I cannot access the UI), but with it open I can.

Anyway, let me welcome you to the Elite: Dangerous Galaxy. My rule 2 is; Have Fun (it is just a game, but WHAT a GAME!).

The learning curve is so steep that the mountain goats go around in teams, roped together (and even then they may fall off, but that means the Vultures get to eat!). However, when you master something, and do it well, the buzz is worth the effort.

Now, Rule 1, which is; Never Fly if you cannot cover the REBUY. REBUY is the insurance excess on your ship, and is 5% of the value of your ship (including all upgrades, but not the cargo). If you get killed, and you can cover the REBUY, you will get a replacement ship identical to the one you lost. However, if you cannot cover the REBUY you may well end up back in a basic Sidewinder. Please do not let this happen to you, as the forum is littered with tales of woe when other Players have ignored Rule 1, and then got killed.

When you decide to buy a new ship, try to have 200% of the purchase price first. That way you have enough for the ship, some basic outfitting, a couple of loads of cargo, and a couple of REBUYs (just in case). If you are trading in a ship, take it back to factory spec first. When you sell any ship you will always take a 10% hit on the value of the ship at the time of selling. However, if you take it back to factory spec first you get back the full amount that you paid for the upgrades (at this time, at least). Then, when you sell the ship, your losses will be reduced. For example, I have an A Rated Cobra MkIII worth 10Mcr. If I were to sell her now I would take a loss of 1Mcr. However, if I take her back to factory spec and then sell her my loss will be about 35Kcr.

Have fun, fly safely, and see you out amongst the stars. Feel free to ask any questions, we all had to learn somewhere, and those that care will answer all they can.

Ummm, are you sure you copy-pasted the thing you wanted to copy-paste, Razor? :)

Yes, because the OP is new (but thanks for asking). I have added my advise on the joystick at the top though. If I do not have the Saitek control panel open the pinkie button does not work, and (with the X52, at least) the pinkie button is a shift button that allows access to the UI (including the comms panel).

Ah, yes, I see.
Well, I think OP simply didn't find (or has not mapped) the tab switching buttons.
And that's a really weird thing you have with the X52. Do you only have the default profile loaded? It could help if you made a custom profile and set it as default. I didn't have problems with pinkie switch, but with MFD. I think it was something like that that helped in the end. It's been some time.

Still no access to Tabs

Just spent 2 hours trying to get to the top tabs. Still no luck. The bindings are here:

okay, once more. You don't get to the top tabs. You are switching between them by special key bindings:

Bind these two on the third POV hat you are not using, according to your sheet.
