First ever voyage with a HOTAS

How the hell have I managed this far without one. I got my wife to buy me a Thrustmaster T Flight X, not wishing to spend a fortune as having never used one before did not was to be left with a expensive white elephant. Anyway, it arrived and I thought I had better check it worked before putting it away for Christmas :D. Well, 2 hours later and the combat training missions mostly complete I wonder how the hell I have not got one of these before, what a difference, completely changed the look and feel of the game for me ...... and I was already as the Forum boo boys would say a 'fan boy'

Even more so now ..... and proud of it !

just used the standard settings apart from assigning a 'next target' button.

25th December - roll on quickly, the wife has now taken it away and hidden it :p

I've been very happy with my T Flight as well. I previously had a Saitek X45, but it started breaking down sometime ago. For a while I compromised by using the X45 throttle and a Logitek Extreme 3D stick. I liked the stick because it had very smooth motion, but the combo was pretty annoying to pull out whenever I wanted to play something, and finally the X45 problems made the throttle unworkable too. I had been looking at the T Flight for a while, but held off because I just couldn't imagine a $40-$50 HOTAS being that good.

What finally decided me was the rocker control on the throttle (that's always been my favorite rudder peddle substitute). The stick has a very smooth motion like I was hoping (the X45 didn't even have that) and the throttle has the notch at 50% that works perfect for E:D.

The only drawback is that it only has the one hat switch. I could definitely use one more of those.

I also found myself using the rocker control instead of the twist on the stick for rudder control.

I have a few other flight sim games I now might return to once I have become Elite 😃

Elite Dangerous with a HOTAS

I just received my Saitek x55 Rhino HOTAS and it's amazing, I had heard mixed reports about quality but everything works well for me straight out the box, that's not to say it won't fail on me too quickly and if it does I hope it's before the end of warranty ;)

Using a HOTAS with Elite Dangerous is so much more natural and definitely gives you an advantage over XBOX 360 Controller.

I'm finding m+k hard as hell, and I refuse to play with flight assist, HOTAS is the next thing i will buy. maybe the rift after

Debating whether or not to go with Thrustmaster T Flight X or X52 Pro Flight, since the price difference is so huge.

the x55 and the x52 pro are the same price. i went with the x55 and im loving it.

Happy to hear it OP. My HOTAS has sat in its original box after trying it on a good amount of sims. But ED is the most fun I've had with it. Feels very natural and intuitive. Gratz on your purchase.

X 55 Rhino here. Heard about the build quality issues, but have to say mine is flawless, brilliantly accurate and works amazingly well in Elite Dangerous, especially with the lightest spring. I also went out and bought Saitek rudder pedals as well, which are amazing, oh and I mounted the Rhino to the handle rests of my chair... Really great experience with Dogfighting...

Firstly, why refuse to fly with flight assist? Switching it on and off as you dog fight is one of the mechanics that gives you an advantage.

Anyway, I had a T Flight X joystick and thought it was great, especially for the price, but I did realise that my accuracy seemed poor with non gimballed weapons. I had read that the X52 pro had hall effect sensors so sold my T Flight X and bought an X52 Pro. Several months of X52 Pro play later and I can safely say it was well worth the investment.

I was surprised when I read that so looked at amazon and confirmed you're absolutely right. This is supply and demand in action (driven, no doubt, by interest in Elite Dangerous) since I paid £100 for my X52 Pro from Amazon in August.

I might ebay it and go for an X55!

I just started learning my t.flight thrustmaster..

Q: It seems a bit sensitive on the joystick..is there an easy adjustment to tune it?
Q: When using this equipment what do folks use for looking around? Mouslook is what I use now...but seems bit awkward to have to release the stick to swop to mouse just to look around?

I'm getting a regular x52 for Christmas. It's replacing my Saitek ST290 Pro (which is almost eleven years old now).

And before someone says something about it not being a Pro... It's a gift and I have no complaints.
