First flight in the Lakon - didn't really go to plan. .

After much trading I finally managed to get my hands on a Lakon, equipped at Aulin with a mix of fixed lasers and cannons. The maiden voyage was to LP.. .. .. what a stupid move that was.

Launch was fine, bit worried about docking at the other end since I only had the insurance excess left, felt very slow after the Cobra but the cargo space makes it worth it (at least that was my thinking). Hyperspace to LP and very quickly interdicted by three Cobras - running isn't an option in the slowest ship in the galaxy so I had to make my stand....

.... managed to waste one Cobra just as my shields died, then disaster - the canopy blew, no HUD at all, I quickly realised that there was no chance to fight since I couldn't target anything, and managed to make it to Supercruise with 30% hull and 7 minutes to dock.

So instead of the nice careful, take your time, don't scrape the paint docking I was anticipating my first docking in the Lakon was a full speed panic fest, fortunately there was no one to mow down in the way. Managed to get it in the slot with 3 minutes remaining - and landing wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. Had completely forgotten they had fixed the air in stations bug !!!!

All in all, probably my tensest flight.

Loads of fun.

You can run from interdictions in the Lakon though. It's dead easy.
The instant you can do so, just turn away from the interdictors, ramp speed, all pips to engines and boost.
I was never troubled by any interdiction in a Lakon. Apart from the times when I decided to take the pirate out for a laugh.

The Lakon is also quite forgiving on the heat during drive charging, so that help.
Just switched to the Anaconda, but I found giving my Cow missile packs in every slot also helped with interdictions as that was the only time I was fighting.

The Lakon, when properly outfitted is a sleeper beast. since your never (you SHOULDNT) going to go LOOKING for trouble..I liked having 2 gimbaled pulse lasers for shield removal, and all the other Hardpoints loaded up with Missiles. add in Military Bulkheads and your a force to be Avoided. if I were running from NPC Pirates I put 4 pips in Engines and 2 pips in Shields and boosted out allowing my shields to absorb the odd shot. If I decided to make a fight of it. it was 4 pips in systems, 1 pip in engines and 1 pip in weapons. Boost until dry, FAOFF,rotate, throw it in Reverse and apply full speed reverse, flip FAON. open up with the gimbaled laser for 1/2 your power, then toss out missiles until they popped, rinse repeat.

Some of my thoughts after flying it for a couple of weeks were that if it could be made a little more swift then it really would be a force to be reckoned with.
Even just a bit more straight line speed would do.
I was very surprised at just how effective in combat it is. Not as surprised as the exploding parties of course, but there you go.

Perhaps when we can upgrade engines etc....:D
