First impressions after patch

Ok.. so i finally let it update and i go in game. Launch from station.. obviously im not going exploring, so i figure ill go to the combat zone to try and grind a little more rank. All seems normal, in my beam turret conda with huge multi. Target elite vulture... tanks me for 10 minutes then leaves... target deadly cutter... tanks me for 10 minutes then leaves... ok.. so i shoot down the rest of the small pack who are all lesser rank so get me less rank and then its like "battle over" "you won champ!" What the actual? They all tuned green now so i cant even join the fight.

Do you hate the players fdev? You like wasting peoples time or something? I feel like i just spent half an hour smashing my face in the wall. I dont even want to do combat i was only trying to unlock an engineer. Where did the fun go?

Like I always say.. Your wallet is a powerful weapon...

I know for a fact, if the next update is paid, I won't touch it until I see the response from the playerbase. Then I might pay for it.

agreed. Plus if you're farming Elite for rank Burke... just fight Thargoids... even the scouts... stick to threat 4 and just use whatever human weapons you want (no need for AX or Guardian stuff vs scouts) and just grind the Thargoid npcs... easy ranking up..

Compare in a resource extraction zone where the ships aren't hardened military versions, maybe?

Deadly python just did the same in haz extraction site. I was ready for it this time aswell shifted into engines and had fire on him all the way. Elite and deadly just disengage at will. There is a name for this, its (lol apparently it happens alot round here so you cant say it!)

I have noticed NPCs running away a lot more, I suspect that'll get dialed back, but if you can't kill them in 10 minutes you really need to look at your flying or loadout.

My non engineered FDL does better than that.

I did note you mentioned turrets. Turrets suffer a massive damage penalty compared to fixed or gimbaled weapons, so that should be your first change.

Hmm... so far I have enjoyed the Combat zones. The VO is awesome and those mini-quests you get (protect x, or kill y) are a good step forward.

The time I have to bail out is when the opposite side get those Elite Spec-Ops pilots, in a wing of four, ganking you. :D And yes, it is one of those mini-quests inside a Combat zone... kill those off. I havn't been able to deal with those yet on my own. :)

AFAIK Compromised NAV Beacons should still be the fastest means to Combat-rank up (own Rank or NPC Crew), unless that fundamentally changed in V3.3

Imperial clipper. I was following him aggressively... frame charge detected

And now this awful game is spawning me mostly harmless sidewinders in my haz res in an anarchy war state system.

I've had a couple high ranking ships wake out on me. Why shouldn't a potentially highly skilled pilot be able to wake out on us? It happens all of the time against Commanders. Do we expect NPC's to just let us take the kill? I dare say that the frightful word 'Entitled' may be relevant here...

Whats wrong with new AI?.It acts like human, low on hull, jumps away...Keep in mind that they are highest ranked special elite forces in cz,lower ranked are not so smart they die often...

If in a combat zone you may want to change from beam lasers to something more potent with an ammo cap. All laser builds were viable until about 2.3/2.4 era but nowerdays the AI is pretty good. As others noted especially in CZs they run now.
In CZs I often move from targeting powerplant to the FSD instead, or I'll do some "ramming speed" manoeuvres just as the shields drop to make sure I get the kill.

As someone who grinded Combat Elite in CZs - My honest advice is not to. I spent days of a ok time in CZs and got Elite. Since then I've spent weeks having a great time in RES sites, to be honest the time I've since spent in RES would probably have gotten me the Elite rank anyway and I kinda feel like I wasted my time in the CZ as it wasn't as fun.

You like wasting peoples time or something?

No. YOU seem to waste YOUR time with a game that YOU do not enjoy.

Seriously, everyone who ever claims the developer of a video game is wasting the players time should play something else or spend their time doing something else entirely instead of playing computer games. No one forced you to play this game. There are enough other games or altogether more meaningful activities out there.

Whilst I don't necessarily agree with the OP, I sympathise. Elite may be the "dream" game concept for OP that just hasn't gone in the direction he would have liked. It could be akin to a fan of a musical group who change musical style and all the "old" fans moan and complain and the new fans (who like the musical style changed to) slag off the "old" fans. So asking someone to just "move on" may or may not be reasonable advice.

As I said earlier, the current AI behaviour is what we had during 2.1 beta and many people always complained that Frontier removed it. That was more than 2 years ago, so I wouldn't call them new fans... ;)

If the complaint is that the artist/developer/contentCreatorInGeneral wastes someones times I think my advice was very reasonable.

Also, I have been here since Premium Beta myself, so I consider myself an ED fan from the start. I would still never complain that Frontier was wasting my time, since it's not their decision that I spend my time with their game, it's mine. This complaint of them wasting my time just because I don't like the direction they are taking with their property right now is just so childish I am always baffled reading it.

It was a loose analogy, but does sort of fit for the point I was making.

Because it's the same as when someone is a fan of a sports team. People can get heavily attached to things like this and when things don't go in a direction they like then it can affect them. Sadly lack of sympathy and empathy are two of the worst human traits possible. Suggesting players just leave the game is never a good suggestion.
